Nordic Curls are one of the best ways to train hamstrings and core!! I wanted to find a way to do them in my Pilates practice which helps emphasize spinal position and core strength. Don’t worry, these aren’t in the beginner classes 😮‍💨😅

This exercise helps traction the spine while working the lateral hip muscles that stabilize the pelvis, keeping it from rotating and dumping forward. It’s done towards the end of her routine after other corrections have been made.

Backstroke is a great exercise for strengthening the whole back body and the pecs and shoulders, but it’s not recommended if you have issues with your spine or your shoulders (depending on severity) This is a way to get similar benefits, but shifts some of the emphasis from the pecs and front delts to the lats.

It’s not very practical to exercise with a level on your pelvis, but it’s totally worth trying it at least once and recording yourself or having a partner tell you if you’re staying level while you lift and lower your legs. One of the most important ways to PROTECT YOUR SPINE from injury is to learn how to engage your abs while maintaining a neutral spine and pelvis!
