As we open our eyes to day three after these tragic and horrifying events, I am reminded of the power of our community. Our lives are changed forever. We have a long road ahead to connect, to heal, and to piece back together the sense of safety that we all once believed was true in this small mountain town. It will not look the same but we will find a path forward together. It reminds me of the lyrics of the song. My girls have been listening to a lot lately. "I broke into a million pieces, and I can't go back
But now I'm seeing all the beauty in the broken glass"

If you are hurting, scared, confused, sad this is normal and okay. Please reach out to someone. You don't need to do this alone.

We are strong, we will find a new path forward.

Technology may have empowered us individually and connected us globally. But, by displacing everyday shared experiences, studies show it's making us lonelier—especially in affluent cultures that promote individualism and independence.

The best way to counter this trend? Engaging in activities that naturally encourage personal connection, collaboration, and shared goals. As we move into this beautiful fall season, sometimes we lose track of where we are heading. The following, from Positive Pyschology guru Hugo Alberts, is a helpful reminder to develop our interntal motivation.

Success, it's been said, lies on the other side of whatever you should be doing but are avoiding. External motivators can help us in the short term, but a more sustainable approach requires intrinsic motivation.

Here are three ways to boost it when it's in short supply:
1. Create a sense of purpose by mentally framing activities to align with core personal values.
2. Induce a flow state with the right level of challenge: Simplify complex tasks by breaking them into smaller steps. Or impose a time limit to make things harder.
3. Visualize the desirable future outcome that completing an action will allow you to realize.

Each of these strategies can help you complete crucial tasks without incentives such as money or other extrinsic rewards.
