Michael Bradley Bledsoe passed away March 18, 2026 at his residence. He was 80.
Michael was born on July 7, 1945, in Langdale, Alabama. At the age of nine, he moved with his family to Cantonment, Florida, where he proudly considered himself a “Florida boy.”
He graduated from Tate High School, where he was active in both sports and music. After graduation, he attended Perkinston Junior College in Mississippi on a band scholarship. He later transferred to Troy State College to play football.
While attending Troy, Michael married Rebecca “Becky” Smith, and together they began a life of service in the Methodist Church. Over the next 57 years, he faithfully served congregations including Hills Chapel, Oak Grove, Shady Grove, Ansley, Repton, Baggett’s Chapel, Mt. Union, Brownville, Wallace, Heartwood, Centenary and Mt. Zion.
Michael began his career in education in 1968 at Evergreen High School. Throughout the years, he also taught and coached at Monroe Academy, Sparta Academy, and Lyeffion
High School. He dedicated his life to mentoring young people, coaching boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, girls’ softball, baseball, and football winning many championships and awards along the way.
Rooted in a love for farm life, Michael spent time raising horses, pigs and growing corn, embracing the values of hard work and simplicity that stayed with him throughout his life. He also enjoyed time outdoors, especially skiing on Gantt Lake and fishing in the Gulf.
Even in his passing, Michael continued his lifelong commitment to serving others. In a final act of generosity, he donated his body to science to help train future medical professionals and support advancements in the treatment of heart and knee conditions—challenges he faced throughout his life.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am., until 12:00 pm., Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home. Private services will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60½ years, Becky Bledsoe; three sons, Michael Bradley (Jill) Bledsoe Jr, Kenneth Dean (Stephanie) Bledsoe, and Steven Robert (Tina) Bledsoe; and his grandchildren, Michael Bradley (Hannah) Bledsoe III, Tanner Dean Bledsoe, Bradley Robert Bledsoe, Brody Smith Bledsoe, Ragan Jillian Bledsoe, and one great-grandson, Michael Bradley Bledsoe IV.
He is also survived by his siblings: Robert Allen Bledsoe, Robin Elizabeth (Ronnie) Kent, and John Morris (Donna) Bledsoe.
Michael will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his dedication to his family and community, and the countless lives he impacted through his ministry and coaching.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Hall Bledsoe and Anna Lois Morris Bledsoe and sister-in-law, Pam Bledsoe.
In leiu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memorial to any of the above listed churches Mr. Bledsoe served.
