Mr. James Cary Travis, 93, a resident of Conecuh County, AL died on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Welcome Church Cemetery on Highway 31, north of Travis Bridge. Rev. Clifford Morris will be officiating with Cope-Keahey Funeral Home directing.



Mr. Cary was born on January 6, 1932 in Conecuh County, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years, Alice Marian Holleman Travis; his parents, James Calloway Travis and Mary Francis Cary Travis;brothers, Emmett (Faye) Travis and Charles Travis; and one sister, Bessie Marie Travis. He is survived by his son, Wayne Holleman Travis; nephew Lee (Cindy) Travis and niece, Anna Maria Parker.



Mr. Cary spent a lot of his early childhood in Brooklyn, AL with his

Grandma and Grandpa Cary. He attended Welcome School, Flat Rock School, and graduated from Evergreen High School in 1950.



After graduating high school, Mr. Cary gained employment with First National Bank in Montgomery, as a runner. In 1952, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Infantry and fought in The Korean War. After the Korean Armistice Agreement, Mr. Cary returned to Alabama and continued working at First National Bank rising to the position of vice president of the Commercial Loan Department. He continued his education by attending Alabama Christian University and the Virginia School of Banking.



Mr. Cary married Alice Marian Holleman, of Macon, GA in 1955. In 1970, he and his wife moved back to the Welcome Community in Conecuh County and purchased the Hill Presley home and farm.



There he joined his brother, Emmett, to form Travis Brothers Quality Pork Producers and also served as book keeper for their sawmill business. In 1978, Mr. Cary gained employment with the U.S. Postal Service in Evergreen, AL where he continued working until he retired in 1996. Having spent the majority of his life in Conecuh County, Mr. Cary was proud of his heritage. He enjoyed telling stories about his ancestors including his triple great uncle, William Barrett Travis, commander of the Alamo.



Mr. Cary loved all animals but especially his ‘beloved’ roosters, his cats, his dogs, and his McCurdy horses. Mr. Cary was a one of a kind individual. His kindness and smile will be missed by all.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Welcome Church and Cemetery fund.

John Cook, age 87 of McKenzie passed away December 8, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Rev. Fred Stallworth will officiate and an eulogy will be given by his son-in-law, Don Harper. Interment will follow in the Antioch Pentecostal Holiness Church (Co. Rd. 47, McKenzie, AL). Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Harper, Miller Stallworth, D.J. Buckhault, Jon Moore, William Noah Harper, Kaleb Richard, Hunter Allred.
Left to cherish his memory, loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Ann Smith Cook; daughters, Kerri Cook Harper (Don) of McKenzie; Sherri Cook Stallworth (Miller) of Cantonment, FL; sons, John Frank Cook (Patty B.), James “Jimbo” Cook (Kimberly Hawsey) of McKenzie.
He retired as a fabricating welder. In his retirement he enjoyed making knives and spending time with his family.

Mamie Lou Griffin Kendrick, 92, of Evergreen passed away peacefully, November 28, 2025, at Englewood Nursing Home (Monroeville) surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 2nd at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home one hour prior to the services. Rev. Mike Ellis, Rev. Greg Hart and Rev. Edward Robinson will officiate. Gene Lasley will provide special music. Interment will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery. Cope-Keahey Funeral Home directing.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Howard, Clay Hammock, Wesley Kendrick, Jesse Kendrick, Kent Kendrick, Jr., Marcus Carlisle, Erik Von Bergen and Matthew Williams.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bower Memorial Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory, sons, Kent Kendrick (Patricia) of Dothan, AL; Gordon Kendrick (Sharon) of St. Petersburg, Florida; Jerry Kendrick (Oneida) of Evergreen, AL; Donnie Kendrick (Doreen) of Bainbridge, Georgia; daughters, Linda Carlisle (Richard) of Terrytown, Louisiana; Connie Baggett (Scott) of Orange Beach, Alabama; Joan Lyons (Doug) of Pensacola, Florida; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Mamie was the family’s matriarch, being sharp-witted, devoted, persistent, courageous, and sassy. Above all, she loved God, family and friends. She loved flower gardening, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family. She was a member of Bower Memorial Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Kendrick. Also passing before her were her parents, Sam and Fannie Griffin, as well as her (Leon, Harvey and Artis) and sisters (Nana Lee, Merle and Betty Sue).
On behalf of the family, a special thank you to all of the staff at Englewood Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice for the compassion and support provided for the past year.

Mr. Jones is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Sharon Bethune Jones in 2020.

Tommy served many capacities in the Castleberry Strawberry Festival for many years. Tommy was also the Castleberry Santa Claus for numerous years. He also spent countless days making sure the town was ready for the holidays and festival. Tommy loved to visit New Mexico and other places hunting big Elk and Alabama deer hunting.

Funeral services will be held 3:30pm, Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Holland Cemetery. Cope-Keahey directing.

Thomas, known as Tommy, was born to T.G. & Mamie Hartley on May 18, 1948, in Mobile, Alabama. He was raised in Evergreen and graduated from Evergreen High School in 1966. He played football and was a friend to many and could be found cutting up at any given time. Tommy attended Jefferson Davis Community College and later joined the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam and worked on aircrafts while stationed in Arizona & Georgia. Tommy returned to his hometown of Evergreen, spending many years working for Poole Trunklines followed by a career in land maintenance. Tommy spent many years at his beloved family property in Owassa, Dry Acres Farm.

Tommy was adored by his devoted wife of 24 years, Martha (Young); his children Thomas Matthew (Patricia) of Flomaton, Sally Hartley Williams (Dan) of Birmingham. His loving stepchildren Lynn Bush (Tony) of McKenzie, Ronald Waters (Mollie) of Greenville and Jay Waters (Leanne) of McKenzie.

Known as “Pop” or “Pop Tommy” to the grandchildren: Gene Hartley (Raven), Elizabeth Hartley, Clara, Walker & Hayes Williams, Corey Bush (Hayden), Olivia Sasser (Jeremy), Katelin McClain (Maddox), Reagan Smith and Jay T Waters. Great-grandchildren, Jackson & Britton Bush, Lillian & Liam Sasser and Evie McClain.

Tommy is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Lang of Mobile and nephews.

Preceding him in peace were his parents, T.G. and Mamie Hartley of Evergreen and brother-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Lang of Mobile.

Tommy was lovingly cared for by the nurses and staff of Southern Hospice, Jessica, Heather, Christina, Yolanda - were such a gift along with family friend and caregiver, Sheryl Carter of Evergreen.

A memorial service will be held on July 18th at Cope-Keahey Funeral home Chapel in Evergreen, Alabama. The receiving of friends & family will be held from 11:00-12:00pm with the service starting at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill in McKenzie. A gathering will be held at The Shack in Evergreen from 4:00 - 6:00 pm as a final farewell to laugh and share in the stories and antics Tommy was known for.

In true Tommy fashion, please dress cool and casual for his service.

Survivors include, son, Allen Pipkin of Skinnerton Community; daughters, Charlotte P. Tucker of Skinnerton Community, Brenda Stacey (Skip) of Skinnerton Community; sister, Myrtle Tolbert of Mobile; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Pipkin is preceded in death by her husband, Harry “Shine” Pipkin; sons, Harry V. Pipkin Jr., Jesse Pipkin; daughter, Evelyn Gail Pipkin; parents, Sular Mae Varner and Jesse House.

Brenda Wilson obituary:
Born May 24, 1946, Brenda Joyce Wilson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend entered heavens gates on July 3rd,2025.
Brenda was married to her devoted husband, Rusty for 50 wonderful years. Together, they traveled all over the country in his 18-wheeler, creating cherished memories as they explored new places. She particularly loved journeys out West where she always made sure to grab a burger from In & Out . She also had a special fondness for admiring old barns along the way. Their adventures were a testament to their deep love and connection.
One of her favorite past times besides cheering on her Alabama football team, was vacationing in the mountains of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina where she loved dipping her toes in the cool water, gathering rocks as keepsakes, and enjoying the beauty of nature.
As a mother and grandmother, Brenda cherished her family & Jesus above all else. She was a woman of deep faith and sought to please Jesus in all aspects of her life.
She poured her heart into her children and grandchildren, creating countless memories that will be treasured forever. She was a talented seamstress & found joy in making dresses and clothes for her granddaughters. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was always there to support and encourage them.
An adventurous spirit, Brenda embraced life with enthusiasm. Whether it be riding thrilling roller coasters or zip lining in the mountains of Tennessee in her 60’s, her zest for life was infectious.
Brenda was also known for her culinary skills, particularly her famous Mexican cornbread. Her warmth and love were felt in every dish she prepared.
Brenda had a special gift for making people feel loved and appreciated. She often wrote heartfelt cards & notes, ensuring everyone around her felt special and valued. Her thoughtfulness & kindness touched the lives of many.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Rusty Wilson, her children, Donna (Bill) Davis, Kristy (Terry) Conway, Jarrod (Ashley) Wilson and her cherished grandchildren, Madison, Chloe, Emma, Magnolia & Willow, brothers, Kenny (Melanie) Ryals and Benny (Audrey) Ryals.
She is welcomed into heaven by her precious grandson, Jackson Conway; her parents, Lavon Ryals & Pauline Ryals - Ivey , her brother & sister, Ray Ryals and Judy Hall, her son in law, Greg Joyner; and her mother & father-in-law Floyd & Euline Wilson.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew & loved her.
A memorial service will be held on July 6th, 2025, at Cope-Keahey Funeral home Chapel in Evergreen, Alabama. The receiving of friends & family will be held from 12:00-1:45 with the service starting at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Baggett’s Chapel Cemetery. Cope-Keahey directing.
As per Brenda’s request, please dress cool and casual for her services. Her favorite holiday was the 4th of July. Please feel free to wear red, white or blue to celebrate her life & love for her country.
In lieu of flowers, Brenda requested that donations be made to the Jackson Conway Foundation in honor of her grandson, Jackson, who bravely fought cancer and whose last wish was to erect a 120ft cross on I-65 for all to see. Donations may be mailed to Conway Diesel -100 Conway Lane, Evergreen, AL 36401.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thankfulness and gratitude to all friends and family who have walked this journey with Brenda. A special thank you is extended to Southern Care Hospice and devoted nurses Alicia, Brittany, & Mallory.
Brenda Joyce Wilson's adventurous spirit and love of life & the Lord will remain in the hearts of all who knew & loved her.
