Chinese Medicine practitioners have been observing the tongue for thousands of years. 👅
“A change in tongue appearance is one of the newest mouth-related symptoms being reported. Tim Spector, PhD, an epidemiologist and principal investigator for the ZOE COVID Symptom Study app, tweeted out a picture of a patient with a white tongue that resembles a condition called geographic tongue. Spector indicated that this "COVID tongue" may be one of the "less common symptoms" patients experience that don't get included on official public health lists.According to the Mayo Clinic, geographic tongue is an inflammatory condition, which may indicate its relationship to the coronavirus. An Aug. 2020 study published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases said that when cells with ACE2 receptors become infected with the virus, that can cause inflammatory reactions in related organs and tissues, such as the tongue.” Photo credit via Twitter

Take a deep breath today and remember that this isn’t a new normal- this way of life we find ourselves living is going to shape the future for sure but we will be back to extended family gatherings and parties with friends, being able to buy toilet paper without waiting in line, back to normal. So take a deep breath and value the possibility of a slowed pace, time with kids and other loved ones, time alone. Take time to be concerned but don’t waste time being worried. Western medicine is not bad in and of itself. If I ever have a compound fracture, I don’t want acupuncture immediately to fix it. But Chinese medicine is great for managing the pain after without opioids. Each modality has the proper application for your overall health. Keep your mind open for health solutions that make sense for you. Sometimes vegetables are what you need. Occasionally a prescription will be needed. Maybe an acupuncture treatment or herbal prescription might be worth a shot before jumping to potentially toxic treatments or surgery.

Scalp acupuncture is another tool that properly trained practitioners can use to treat various difficult conditions. Indications for scalp acupuncture include virtually all the usual indications for body acupuncture, but the main applications are stroke, paralysis, pain, and emergency situations. The scalp acupuncture technique taught by Dr. Zhu has been used at ITM’s An Hao Natural Health Care Clinic in Portland to treat a multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathy, migraine headache, and Bell’s palsy.
