Hearing directly from customers is one of the most meaningful ways to understand the impact of a reliable monitoring solution.

“You have a probe for everything — it makes our lives easier!”
— Katie Bernard, Sample Management Supervisor at Astoriom

Prior to working with Rees, Astoriom was operating with an outdated monitoring system that created challenges with system visibility and required additional manual monitoring. The team also needed a solution that could maintain reliable oversight during power outages. With the Rees Environmental Monitoring System and its failover node capabilities, Astoriom now has improved visibility and continuous monitoring they can rely on.

Welcome to another installment of our Friday FAQ series, where we address common questions and break them down into practical insights for regulated environments.

This week's question: What is a temperature data logger used for and is it enough for a regulated environment?

A temperature data logger is a device used to record temperature readings over a set period of time. Facilities often use them to confirm that conditions remained within an acceptable range during storage, transport, or equipment operation.

While data loggers can be useful for basic monitoring, they are often not sufficient for regulated environments on their own.

Most regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, and blood banking require more than periodic temperature records. They also expect continuous monitoring, electronic records, audit trails, alarm notifications, and system oversight to help maintain compliance with regulatory standards.

Because of these requirements, many organizations rely on a validated Environmental Monitoring System (EMS), like Rees, rather than standalone loggers. An EMS provides real-time monitoring, automated alerts, secure data storage, and documentation that supports regulatory inspections.

Welcome to the start of our Friday FAQ series! Each edition will address a common question we hear and break it down into practical, inspection-ready insight.

Our First Friday FAQ: Will Your Monitoring System Pass an FDA or Joint Commission Audit?

If an inspector walked into your facility tomorrow, would you feel confident or start scrambling? Inspection readiness is one of the most common concerns we hear from regulated facilities.

When regulators assess monitoring programs, they typically evaluate:
• Continuous, uninterrupted data
• Secure, time-stamped audit trails
• Controlled user access
• Documented alarm response
• Calibration traceability
• IQ and OQ validation documentation

Inspections are not limited to reviewing equipment either. They assess the strength of documentation, data integrity, and procedural consistency. Audit readiness should not be reactive. It should be embedded into daily operations.

Facilities that prioritize consistency year-round are better positioned when inspections occur. The real question is not whether you have a monitoring system. It is whether you can confidently defend it.

At Rees, we work with regulated facilities every day to design monitoring programs built for inspection readiness and long-term compliance confidence. Request an assessment: https://hubs.li/Q0453fvT0

This series will continue exploring the questions that matter most to regulated facilities. If you would like to submit an FAQ of your own, please drop it in the comments!
