Nature has a profound impact on our nervous systems. Water, the quality of light, natural textures, plants and more can calm us, make us more creative, improve our mood, and make us more receptive to healing. Can you imagine what happens when you embed healing services within a beautiful nature filled environment that starts before you even walk in the door and continues through the space?

Big thank you to Pete The Green House who repotted and fed all our plants to keep them happy and thriving, so they can keep YOU happy and thriving. We appreciate his loving attention to our plant friends. They are an important part of our center and the healing that happens here. It takes a village. ❤️

These are part of my morning ritual.

Yes, all of them.

Instead of turning on the news or scrolling social media, my first practices of the day are tai chi, a mini watercolor, and reading something from each book…even if it’s just a sentence or a paragraph. The nature of what I read sets the tone and gives me wisdom to ponder throughout the day.

Lately, the two that I find myself lingering with are The Fifth Season and Healing After Loss.

I recently lost my mom.

It is a strange phrase, “Lost my mom” when what I really mean is…I feel so lost without my mom. The world is changing, my own body is aging, things that used to matter seem inconsequential. What I need is my mom hugging me and saying “Everything will be ok.”

In the immediate rawness of grief, these books and my morning rituals have been anchoring practices that calmed my nervous system and gave me some sense of sameness in a world that has forever been altered.

Part of the reason they worked is that they were already part of my daily repertoire. They stabilized my world because they were already part of my world. A solid foundation that still stood when the storm rolled in and shook the house. I could return to these practices with “muscle memory” even when my brain was consumed with grief.

Sadness still washes over me in waves daily, and I am allowing myself to immerse into this ocean of tears. There is beauty here, too, even in its unbearable heaviness. I am diving in and finding strangely, in this season of life, I can breathe underwater.

Take some time this week to make a singular mini morning practice. Just 5 minutes of something that brings you peace or comfort or wisdom. Maybe next week you add another 5 minute practice. Build your strong foundation.

Do it every day. It will challenge you. It will also change you. And in moments when you feel lost, it will be the thread that helps you find your way back to peace within.

Be well, friends. Be at peace. ❤️

You probably gave a Valentine to someone this weekend. Now, it’s your turn to receive love. From the most important person — yourself.

Our upcoming Mindfulness for Self-Compassion Workshop is an invitation to soften towards yourself, especially when you’re feeling low on energy and patience. Rather than trying to “fix” anything, we’ll explore gentle mindfulness practices that help you meet your inner experience with kindness, understanding, and love, especially when optimism and energy feel scarce.

This workshop is for you if:
…you feel stressed, fatigued, or depleted
…you are self-critical and feel unable to show up as your authentic self in the world
…you want to find greater ease of being and emotional strength

We welcome you to join us Tuesday, February 17th, 6:30-7:30 pm at The Healing Sanctuary. No mindfulness experience needed. Come as you are. We’ve got you.

Register at link in bio or on our Classes page on our website.

We had an opportunity to sponsor Girls on the Run Coach training this weekend. What an honor to see the number of people dedicated to bringing confidence, kindness, positivity and more to the girls in our community.

These wonderful volunteers braved dropping temperatures, crazy wind, and snow squalls to show up early on a Saturday morning for this training. That is true dedication!

Beautiful organization, an incredibly warm and kind staff, and values to aligned with the work we do as a center. Check them out! ❤️

Curious About Our Logo Symbolism?

"The Soul has been given its own ears to hear things the mind does not understand." - Rumi

Symbols are important tools that allow our minds to make deeper connections. A circle gives rise to thoughts of wholeness, unity, timelessness, cyclic movement, the ultimate state of Everything (Oneness) and Nothing (ultimate potential), eternity. The line underneath symbolizes groundedness, emphasis (like an underline), foundation, stability, a path.

"But what IS it?" you still may ask. Still your mind and focus your attention. What do you see? A sun rising on a new day? A singing bowl and mallet? A bench beside a peaceful pond awaiting your pebble to ripple its surface? A step in front of a portal to a wondrous world? A moon meditating on its reflection in the water? Look further. Like our capacity for peace and healing, the possibilities are limitless.
