Exton Allergy and Asthma Associates

Exton Allergy and Asthma Associates Board Certified in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology

Our goal is to devise individualized treatment plans to meet each patient's healthcare needs while respecting personal beliefs and considering their preferences and expectations. We do our best to get to know our patients and understand their priorities to establish a plan that our patient is able and willing to implement. The majority of allergic and immunologic disorders and asthma are chronic conditions that require long term treatment. To promote long term health and improve quality of life, we aim to minimize the need for and reliance on medications. this can be achieved in part by emphasizing lifestyle changes and environmental modifications to minimize exposure to triggers. Another pillar of our approach is addressing the root cause of allergic conditions, which is an aberrant immune response to innocuous allergens that is achieved by allergens that is achieved by allergen immunotherapy, which is a potentially curative approach. We frequently use medications in our treatment plans, but believe the least amount of medication that enables us to control our patient's symptoms and diesease process, is the most appropriate. We strive to provide the best possible care by judicious use of only the least number of tests and procedures to avoid putting an undue financial burden on our individual patients and their family as well as the society in general.

Mid August Heralds Onset Of Ragw**d Pollen Season

For many, August signals the end of summer. But for millions of Americans, the month marks the beginning of ragw**d season - and with it another battle against sneezing, itchy eyes, runny noses and congestion.

Ragw**d is abundant in the Northeast, Midwest and South from mid-August through the first frost. The w**d grows in fields and roadside ditches, but also thrives in urban areas such as vacant lots. Allergy shots are an effective treatment in up to 90 percent of patients.

Each ragw**d plant produces 1 billion pollen grains in an average season. With help from the wind, the grains can travel up to 400 miles.

Avoid Exposure
Approximately 36 million Americans suffer from seasonal allergies. Ragw**d is the No. 1 cause of fall allergies. An allergist/immunologist can diagnose and treat ragw**d and other allergies, enhancing quality-of-life for those who suffer. You can use these tips to minimize your exposure to ragw**d and reduce your symptoms:

* Keep windows closed to keep pollen from drifting into your home.
* Use the air conditioner, which filters, cools and dries air.
* Stay indoors when pollen counts are highest, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
