Hi, I’m Neal, I joined FLVAC in May 2024. While I initially came for the hands-on medical experience before pursuing a career in healthcare, I found much more through the vibrant community of Fair Lawn. FLVAC has become my second home. It is a place where I can hang out with great friends while making a meaningful difference. The personal growth I’ve experienced here has been life-changing, so if you have an interest in helping others, join us – it’s the best decision I made!

Thank you for your dedication and service to the community. RIP Chief Robert Van Houten.

Thank you for your dedication and service to the community. RIP Chief Robert Van Houten.

It is with profound sadness that the Fair Lawn Police Department announces the passing of Robert Van Houten, retired Chief of Police.

Chief Van Houten honorably served the Borough of Fair Lawn for 37 years, beginning his career in 1950. He served as Chief of Police from 1979 until his retirement in 1987, providing dedicated leadership and leaving a lasting legacy within this department and the community he faithfully served.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Vander Plaat Colonial Funeral Home, Fair Lawn. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 6.

On behalf of the Fair Lawn Police Department, I extend our deepest condolences to the Van Houten family. They are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Last night’s crew closed out the final calls of 2025 and rang in the new year by responding to the first call of 2026 just after 2 a.m. Huge thanks to our team—and to first responders everywhere—who spent New Year’s Eve serving their communities instead of being at home.
