Naturopathic oncology is a specialized field that focuses on supporting individuals before, during, and after cancer treatment.

It is rooted in integrative care, meaning it works in collaboration with conventional oncology rather than replacing it. The focus is on the whole person, including physical health, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle factors, and long term recovery.

Care plans are individualized and may include nutrition support, botanical medicine, lifestyle modifications, and other therapies aimed at helping the body better tolerate treatment, maintain strength, support recovery, and disease reoccurance prevention.

The goal is not to offer a single solution, but to create a supportive environment where the body is better equipped to handle the demands of treatment and healing.

REPOST• Athletes often prioritize oxygen efficiency because it plays a role in both performance and recovery. The ability to utilize oxygen effectively supports energy production and helps the body return to baseline after physical demand.

This perspective is useful beyond athletics. It reinforces the idea that sustainable performance comes from understanding how the body works, not just adding new tools.

Education is the foundation of responsible use. Before incorporating any modality, it is important to understand how it fits into a broader recovery strategy that includes nutrition, hydration, sleep, and movement.

Positioning education first helps build trust and ensures that tools are used intentionally, supporting long term consistency rather than short term expectations.

Light therapy offers a non invasive way to support skin health by working with the body’s natural processes. Red light focuses on calming inflammation and improving circulation, while blue light is commonly used to target acne related bacteria.

From a naturopathic perspective, skin health reflects internal balance, so therapies like light exposure can be part of a broader approach that includes nutrition, detox pathways, and hormone support.

Consistency matters, and results build over time as the skin responds to improved circulation, reduced congestion, and better cellular function.

Naturopathic doctors focus on understanding the whole person, not just isolated symptoms. This includes looking at lifestyle, nutrition, stress, environment, and underlying patterns that may be influencing health over time.

One of the key strengths of naturopathic care is prevention. By identifying early imbalances and supporting the body’s natural processes, care can be directed toward maintaining wellness and reducing future risk.

Naturopathic medicine also emphasizes education. Patients are guided to better understand their bodies and are supported in making sustainable changes that align with their health goals.
Importantly, naturopathic doctors can work alongside conventional providers. This integrative approach allows patients to benefit from both perspectives, combining diagnostics and acute care with lifestyle based and root focused strategies.

The goal is not to replace one system with another, but to create a more complete and individualized approach to health.

March is a powerful reminder that colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers when caught early. Screening does not always have to start with invasive procedures. Options like FIT, Cologuard, and Shield offer accessible, at home ways to begin paying attention to your health and are often covered by insurance.

From a naturopathic perspective, prevention is not just about testing. It is about understanding the full picture. Pairing screening tools with a metabolic assessment can provide deeper insight into how lifestyle, inflammation, nutrition, and overall physiology may be influencing risk over time.

This is where integrative care matters. It is not about replacing conventional screening, but about expanding the conversation to include root causes, early patterns, and long term health optimization.

Early awareness creates more options. Prevention is not a single step, it is a strategy built over time.

Light therapy continues to be studied for its role in supporting neurological health, especially in the context of age related cognitive changes. Rather than acting as a standalone solution, it is best understood as a supportive modality that helps create conditions for healthier brain and sleep function.

One of the most meaningful areas of support is circadian rhythm regulation. Individuals experiencing cognitive decline often struggle with disrupted sleep patterns, which can impact both quality of life and caregiver burden. Regular exposure to appropriate light may help reinforce the body’s internal clock, supporting longer and more restorative sleep cycles.

As part of an integrative approach, light therapy can be combined with lifestyle strategies such as sleep hygiene, nutrition, and daily routine to support overall well being in a gentle and sustainable way.

Today we are advocating for the future of naturopathic medicine and the patients we serve.

We are meeting with legislators to help educate on the role of naturopathic doctors in integrative healthcare, the importance of access to care, and why this work matters for our communities.

Advocacy is an extension of patient care. It is about ensuring that individuals have access to a broader, more comprehensive approach to health that includes prevention, lifestyle medicine, and whole person support.

Days like today help move the profession forward through education, collaboration, and meaningful conversation with decision makers.

Grateful to stand alongside dedicated doctors working to create lasting impact for the future of healthcare.

Lobby Day is a day spent meeting with legislators and their staff in Sacramento informing them about naturopathic medicine, the importance of our work to Californians, and issues we need their support on. The more we have in attendance, the stronger our voice. Legislators want to understand how much the issue impacts their constituents.

Typically, we are meeting with staff versus the Legislator themselves. The staff’s job is to understand who we are and what we need and bring this information back to the Legislator for their consideration. When we are running a bill, this may be helping the Legislator determine if they should vote yes or no!

Women’s History Month is also an opportunity to reflect on the history of medical research and how it has shaped healthcare today.

For many years, clinical studies and drug trials primarily used male participants. Researchers often excluded women because hormonal cycles were viewed as variables that complicated study results.

As a result, much of our early medical data on medications, symptoms, and treatment responses was based largely on male physiology.

We now know that women can experience different symptoms, drug metabolism, immune responses, and disease progression. These differences influence how conditions present and how treatments work.

Modern medicine is increasingly recognizing the importance of s*x specific research and personalized care.

Integrative and naturopathic approaches also emphasize individualized treatment plans that account for hormonal health, metabolic differences, and life stage transitions.

Recognizing these historical gaps helps move healthcare forward toward more inclusive, accurate, and effective care for women today and in the future.

REPOST• Unspoken concerns often stop people from considering hyperbaric therapy. Questions about noise levels, comfort, and what it actually feels like inside a chamber are very common.

Today’s home hyperbaric chambers are intentionally designed to reduce stress and make the experience approachable. The materials are flexible, the pressurization is gradual, and the interior space allows users to relax rather than feel restricted.

Many individuals build sessions into quiet parts of their day, using the time to unplug, read, or simply rest. For some, the chamber becomes a dedicated space for recovery and personal downtime.

Understanding how modern chambers are built can make the decision feel far less intimidating and help people approach HBOT with confidence and clarity.

Idk if that makes sense ive got some brain fog going on today. I'm sleepy.

Light therapy works because specific wavelengths of light interact with molecules in the body that respond to light energy. Research has shown that red and near infrared wavelengths can influence nitric oxide signaling, which supports healthy blood flow and circulation.

Better circulation can help tissues receive oxygen and nutrients needed for recovery, repair, and normal cellular activity. This is one reason red and near infrared light therapy are used in integrative and naturopathic medicine to support skin health, muscle recovery, and overall tissue wellness.

Modern LED based systems deliver these wavelengths safely across larger areas of the body, allowing gentle and consistent exposure that supports natural physiological processes.
