Saturday is National Donor Day—a day we honor organ and tissue donor heroes and recognize their lifesaving and healing impact.

As we approach National Donor Day, we are proud to share that in 2025, more donors gave the gift of life in our state than ever before. Their generosity is estimated to impact more than 53,000 recipients.

The opportunity for renewed life is only possible because of the donors who choose to give life. We are endlessly grateful to them and their families.

Carly Berkenmeier, RN, JCH&L chemotherapy nurse, accepted $1,250 in gas cards and letters of hope from Fairbury FBLA officers Micah Friesen and Molly Hansmire as part of the group’s annual cancer awareness project. Fairbury FBLA partnered with JCH&L during September and October, with Milford and Wilber FBLA chapters and volleyball teams also taking part. Students sold 317 shirts and raised additional funds through Caps for a Cure, Comfy for a Cause and collections at games, while JCH&L hosted a denim day and a student convocation featuring cancer survivor Isaac Robertson. The project supports local cancer patients and marks its third year!
