“That’s the magic of IR.”

Sebastian Junger gave an emotional and inspiring keynote speech, “I owe my life to IR”, at the SIR 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting, where he shared the very personal story of coming close to death. Spending twenty years as a war journalist, Junger never thought about the possibility of a ruptured aneurysm in his own driveway after an evening walk.

Interventional radiologists saved his life that day, after he was rushed to the hospital. Within our unique specialty, it’s important to hear patients’ stories of how minimally-invasive procedures change their lives.
