Even with an oxytocin prescription, Yoselin Diosdado was barely able to get a few hours of sleep. The pain behind her knee from the blood clot stopped her from straightening her leg, from walking, and now at just 22 years old, she was dependent on her mother and sister to help her from the bed to the bathroom.

David Mittelstein, MD, PhD, is the 2026 recipient of the SIR Residents, Fellows, and Students (RFS) Section Clinical Advancement Award. 🏆

David is a PGY‑4/R3 in the NIH T32‑funded IR Integrated Research Pathway at UC San Diego and an exceptional clinician, researcher, and leader. His work examining IR integrated residency attrition—designed, executed, and presented at the APDIR Education Meeting—has already begun informing national conversations within APDIR and the SIR Education Committee.

Nearly 10 million Americans have PAD, a blood flow condition that could increase a patient’s risk for amputation. Did you know you may be more likely to develop PAD if you have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, or a history of smoking? An interventional radiologist can help determine if you have PAD. This can be through an ankle brachial index test, which compares the blood pressure in the upper and lower limbs, or through an examination, using imaging techniques such as ultrasound, CT and MRI.
