A normal afternoon drive to my daughters’ volleyball got rerouted suddenly to Jiaqi’s house as labor started quickly! Midwife’s babies in the backseat never realized the excitement as the three-year-old slept through the drive and the 5-month-old thought the game of Musical Carseats was just par for the course when my oldest daughter arrived to save the day and take them home.

Upon arrival, the calm state of our laboring mother might have tricked you into thinking that the rush was all in vain… but then she was pushing (the quietest sound you would have missed if you weren’t right in the room with her) and there was baby Ren at 3:40pm! Big brother arrived home from karate class to the surprise of a newborn’s cry.

Serving this family again was especially sweet because they’d been with us for #1 and #2, but then moved away for #3 before coming back to NoVA for #4. Tricia and Matt, I have loved getting to watch your family grow, seeing the sweet way you love each other, enjoying your great sense of humor, your delicious baking, and your lively, joyful children.

At 13 days past your due date, I admired your stamina. All that waiting paid off in your quickest birth yet.

Today we had our last Community Care visit for our November due date moms! Along with sharing our expectant excitement, we talked about being pregnant past your due date, strategies for pushing, and planning for a healthy and restful postpartum 😌 We’re excited to meet these little ones oh so soon!

When your first baby comes right on time, waiting almost 2 more weeks for your second baby can be quite a challenge. Aaron and Rob stuck to the plan to wait for spontaneous labor until 42 weeks, and thankfully little Easton decided to come one day ahead of the planned induction! What a gift it was. Welcome, Easton! 😇

How do you write a birth announcement for your own sister? “Special” doesn’t begin to describe the experience of helping your baby sister have her baby. I was there 25 years ago when Sally was born at home. And now she and I are nursing our two newborn girls together, living as next door neighbors while our big boy preschoolers make each other laugh. It’s a gift that this world can’t offer many to parallel. Congratulations Sally and Alfonso! Welcome, little Maria! 🩷🎀
