Absolutely know “why”….

"One of the most important things to remember is that a birth plan should be created from a place of knowledge, not just by haphazardly picking options from a checklist. Take the time to learn about each choice—whether it’s pain relief methods, monitoring preferences, or newborn procedures."

Hamstrings… yes, they make a difference in your birth experience!

Among the many daily activities that we recommend for pregnancy is the Calf Stretch. It gives length to your hamstrings, so your sacrum and buttock muscles are more mobile when you need your pelvis to open for your baby during descent in labor.

We owe many thanks and credit to Katy Bowman, Bioscientist, who taught us the importance of doing the calf stretch a few times a day to bring ease while pushing a baby out and making squatting easier. Your hamstrings will love you, and you will love your hamstrings!

Always a wonderful thing to share techniques that can make a difference in someone’s life.

I had a fun, chance meeting with RN, Lisa Cook, while in VA a couple months ago, who developed a really great technique for natural labor progression called “Cook Counter Pressure” and featured on the Spinning Babies website. (Link in comments) Her work in Labor and Delivery is much appreciated. Learning technqiues like this are so important for doulas to be equipped to help their clients have the best birth experience possible and avoid unnecessary medical interventions.
