🔬 New findings on multi-cancer early detection (MCED) blood tests show promising results for early screening of 50 cancers with a single blood draw. More than 800 participants from Inova Schar Cancer have enrolled in the study.

Nearly 70% of cancer deaths result from cancers that don't have an early screening test—making MCED blood tests a hopeful step toward earlier detection.

New findings suggest blood tests still being assessed are showing promising results for early cancer screenings, especially when it comes to detecting more cancers at earlier stages when treatment is more likely to be successful.

The Inova Saville Cancer Screening and Prevention Center team recently hosted two community cancer screening days to support underserved community members facing barriers to cancer prevention services. 💙

Attendees had access to screenings, tests, take-home FIT kits, as well as mental health and wellness resources, genetic counseling and multi-cancer detection test research at our health fair.

A special thank you to the Inova Schar Cancer Arts & Healing Program artists for creating a welcoming, healing atmosphere throughout the events. 🎶

🩺🤝 The Virginia Colorectal Cancer Roundtable’s (VCCRT) Northern Virginia Regional Action Planning Meeting, hosted by Inova, brought together public and private partners from across Virginia with a shared goal: reducing the burden of colorectal cancer for all Virginians.

🗣️ Dr. Raymond Wadlow welcomed attendees, and Dr. Rebecca Kaltman shared updates on clinical innovations and prevention strategies advancing colorectal cancer care.

📊 A new study published in The Lancet marks a major milestone in the treatment of head and neck (oropharyngeal) cancers. This Phase III trial shows that proton therapy significantly improves survival and post-treatment quality of life compared with traditional radiation therapy.

🏥 The Mather Proton Therapy Center at Inova Schar Cancer was among a select group of community-based cancer centers participating in this landmark, multi-institutional study.

Long-distance runners are often seen as the picture of health. But when three patients, all ultramarathoners age 40 or younger, were diagnosed with advanced colon cancer, Dr. Timothy Cannon, Sheridan Director, Molecular Tumor Board, launched a first-of-its-kind study, which suggested a potential link between long-distance running and a higher colon cancer risk. 🏃
