Terrence McKenna said, ‘Nature Loves Courage’ - We carry the terror of past experiences in our present day bodies, along with the shame that came with secretly believing we deserved it.
Our practices help us to be courageous and to face that terror and to learn how it moves through us. Our practices help us to get over the unhelpful obsession with ‘why’ we get triggered in favor or ‘what’ is happening when we get triggered and ‘how’ we can come back to center easier and faster.
Good coaching can support this process. An extra set of eyes to reflect and an additional nervous system to regulate with can make a world of difference.

Many coaches tell me they lack confidence.

They aren’t confident they’ll know the best thing to say to the client. Or if they’ll ask the best question. They freeze up for fear of not getting it right.

Their focus is off. There is no ‘best thing’.

If they focus on being confident in their mission and commitment to the work and the client, all things will fall into place.

One of the practices of the coach is to care more about the client then they care about themselves. This seems obvious, but if our attention is fixated on our own insecurities we are being truly self centered. Performance anxiety never resolves itself!

We can practice moving our attention into the present moment, orienting it to center around our client, offering them our curiosity. We can bring our clients our kind confidence in what’s possible when we work together.

I have a fair amount of people reach out about integration coaching, or my psychedelic integration coaching training or some such things, and I schedule discovery sessions with them. It's a fair amount of work, but I like it. I like meeting people, it's usually cool even if we don't end up working together. It's a fun part of the job. The problem is, a percentage of people are no shows for their appointment.

This literally hurts my feelings, and it's also a huge drain on my time and energy. Multiple emails to find the time that works, creating the zoom link, sharing the link through the calendar, sending a confirmation email with the zoom link... It wouldn't be much if it was just one or two people a week, but it's more, and it adds up. I don't think I can automate it, or get a VA to do it any easier.

I haven't been sure what to do with the people when they finally show up again. I don't want to act out of a place of grumpiness with people. I want to be professional, but I also need to have boundaries. I don't think bodes well for a constructive coaching relationship. Some people I never hear from again, but some ask for another appointment. I had one guy ghost me twice.

I started telling people that I couldn't reschedule missed appointments, and often they would get pi**ed at me, like I was the bad guy, "Oh well with that attitude, I wouldn't want to work with you anyway".

The solution I've come up with at this point is to front load the information about no-shows. When they get their zoom link, one of the lines in the email states:

"Please understand that if you're a no-show for the appointment, I cannot schedule another one. I appreciate your consideration."

My no shows have plummeted, and I haven't had anyone call me names for not rescheduling with them. I'm not a big data guy, so I can't give you a percentage, but I consider it a win.

my good friend is holding some mens groups and he does very powerful work. It's a place to be real and receive consistent support and accountability.

Did a meditation this weekend in the shadow of the Sphinx. A lovely spot in the hills above Woodstock. Taking a mini vacay isn’t as easy with the tiny human, but it’s important to get him out and let him have some new experiences, meet some new people, and terrorize some dogs. (Videos of him hand feeding a Pomeranian upon request). Our host was gracious and has a lovely collection of original family dog /60s rock posters, which I love. There was even one from Alta Int, which made me catch my breath, and my blood run cold. This concert erupted into a bloody riot, and for some signaled the end of the era of peace and love. A dark day in music history. We’re still hurting each other to this day, wrestling for control and power. Peace and love is an inside job, and nobody gets it until we all get it. October is adhd awareness month but nobody gets around to sharing about it until the 26th. I hope everyone else out there who is as ADHD as I am, is managing to figure out how to have a good life. I wish I had strategies to share with you, but they won’t work anyway. I’d make suggestions about habits to develop but you won’t do them, and I’d be a hypocrite because I don’t do them either. All I can say is I love you and I hope you’re able to claw and scrape your way to some semblance happiness and success and that you somehow are able to remain kind and sweet throughout it all. Did I mention I love you?
