Mental health care continues to evolve, and in 2026 we’re seeing several therapeutic approaches used more widely than ever. Some of the most commonly practiced modalities include:

• Trauma Informed Care
• Somatic Therapies
• Internal Family Systems
• Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies
• Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Each of these modalities offers unique tools to support healing —
While certain approaches are often paired with specific diagnoses, therapy is never one-size-fits-all. The most effective treatment is one that considers your individual experiences, goals, culture, and needs. If you are interested in learning more about a particular modality, find a mental health professional that is right for you and your goals.

This post is for educational purposes only. Although these treatment modalities are commonly paired with the treatment of specific disorders, it’s important to speak with your own health professional about what approach may be best for you.

If you are interested in meeting with one of our therapists, please visit our website and fill out our “Intake” form.

OAC SPOTLIGHT!

Please give a warm welcome to OAC’s newest therapist, Cherie Catlett, LCSW!

1. How did you get into social work/mental health?
I got into social work/mental health because of two neonatal losses in 2006 and again in 2011. During this experience, I found there was a lack of care for this area of care in the hospitals. I focused a lot of my energy on changing hospital policies and advocating to make changes within the hospital system that aligned with the values of the social work profession. During this time, my family became the 2011 Southern Nevada March of Dimes Ambassador Family. We advocated for the organization that year, and the following year, we were one of the runners-up to the March of Dimes National organization, where we were considered to spend a year traveling around the country speaking for the organization. I spent many years on the board of the March of Dimes. I have spent much of my career working with families in Labor and Delivery Units and Neonatal Intensive Care Units across various states. Social work has allowed me to work with individuals with a strong strengths perspective, giving them a sense of agency and autonomy, and teaching them a sense of value and worth that I believe is always within the individual, waiting to be ignited again.

2. A fun fact about yourself:
A fun fact about myself is that I love watching football, and am a Steelers fan. I have been to several NFL stadiums across the country, and my goal is to see the Steelers play in every one.

3. A piece of advice for your younger self:
A piece of advice for my younger self would be to keep trusting your gut and instincts.

We are so grateful to have you join our practice and thanks for all you do!

OAC SPOTLIGHT!

Meet Elizabeth Dakin, LCSW! One of our talented, part-time licensed therapists.

1. How did you get into social work/mental health?
“I became interested in mental health as a teenager when I learned there was such a thing as an inner life that should be cherished and tended to. It took me until after college to get clarity on my goal to be a psychotherapist and how to reach it.”

2. A fun fact about yourself:
“A fun fact about me is that I majored in Music as an undergraduate student.”

3. A piece of advice for your younger self:
“A piece of advice for my younger self would be to trust that we all have a purpose in life. Our innate gifts and talents should be celebrated as much as our outward accomplishments like good grades and awards.”

Thank you, Elizabeth, for your empathic and caring touch in our practice!

“Leave Behind and Carry Forward”

As we step into a new year, it’s a perfect moment to look back and envision ahead. For some, it is part of the New Years process but for others, it can feel daunting. We can simplify this with two simple questions.

What can we reflect on and release from 2025?
What can we focus on and make space for in 2026?

No need for elaborate plans, if that feels too stressful—just a mindful pause to reflect and move intentionally into the year.

Wishing you a joyful New Year from all of us at OAC!
