Feeling lucky this St. Patrick’s Day? Your skin should not have to rely on luck.

If you have fair skin, freckles, or a history of sunburns, early spring sun exposure can add up quickly. Even in March, UV rays can contribute to premature aging and increase your risk for skin cancer.

Sunscreen is not just for summer. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF daily, reapply if you are outside, and do not forget commonly missed areas like your ears and the back of your neck.

Your skin health is about protection, not luck.

If it has been a while since your last skin exam, this is a great time to schedule one. Make an appointment at ACS Dermatology today!

On National Skin Barrier Day, we want to remind you how important it is to the health of your skin.

Your barrier helps lock in moisture and protect against irritants, bacteria, and environmental stress. When it becomes damaged, you may notice redness, dryness, flaking, or increased sensitivity.

Over-exfoliating, harsh products, and seasonal weather shifts can all weaken your barrier.

If your skin feels more reactive than usual, we can help evaluate what is going on and build a routine that supports long-term skin health.

If your skin is feeling "off", it may be your skin barrier. Make an appointment with our team to learn more!

Are you Botox curious but don't want to look fake?

The good news is, you don't have to worry! Botox works by temporarily relaxing targeted muscles, creating a smoother appearance. It does not change your facial structure or stop the aging process, but it can help reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.

Let's talk about what it can do for you! Make an appointment with our team today!

You might be happy about the temperature changes, but your skin isn't.

Temperature swings, wind, and sun exposure can trigger rosacea flare-ups. Early spring in Northern Virginia often brings unpredictable weather, which can make sensitive skin more reactive.

If facial redness, visible blood vessels, or flushing are becoming a problem, a dermatology evaluation can help you calm your skin and manage your rosacea. Make an appointment with our team today.

Cystic acne and hormonal acne are often used interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same thing.

Hormonal acne is triggered by fluctuations in hormones, which increase oil production and clog pores. It often appears along the lower face, jawline, and chin, especially in adults and in women, around their cycles.

Cystic acne refers to a type of acne. These are deep, painful, inflamed breakouts that form beneath the skin. They can be caused by hormones, but not all cystic acne is hormonal.

So what does that mean for treatment?

Hormonal acne may respond well to targeted treatments that regulate underlying triggers. Cystic acne often requires prescription-strength medications to reduce inflammation and prevent scarring.

Not sure what you're dealing with? A dermatologist can help determine what's causing your acne and make recommendations for the best course of action.

Let's get you started on a path to clear skin. Make an appointment with our team today.

If your skin feels dull, congested, or just not as smooth as it used to be… a chemical peel might be your new best friend.

At ACS Dermatology, we offer a medium-depth peel that combines lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol to exfoliate dead skin cells, unclog pores, improve acne, soften fine lines, and brighten uneven pigmentation. What does this mean for your skin? Smoother texture, clearer pores, and a more even glow.

It’s especially great for patients dealing with acne, sun damage, or stubborn discoloration that isn’t responding to skincare alone.

And yes, there may be some downtime and peeling. But it will be worth it.

Schedule an appointment with our team today to get your customized peel!

At ACS Dermatology, this is a question we frequently hear from parents: Should my teen take Accutane?

Here's what our patients have to say: Dr. Aziz is wonderful! My shy teenager with bad acne really likes his friendly bedside manner. He recommended some topical and antibiotics that greatly improved the acne but it still wasn't totally better on the body so he recommended (and my teenager wanted) Accutane. When Dad had lots of concerns about the medication he was very patient and answered all the questions regarding the most recent studies and understanding on it that made Dad supportive of the next step. Teenager self reports the acne is now 60-70% better after just one month. Can't recommend this office and Dr. Aziz enough! They listen, are patient and kind.

We want to help you make an educated decision for your child. Call us today if your teen is struggling with acne.
