Faith Hospice Care NJ: Quick for Home Comfort & Care.

Did you know? Across New Jersey, many families on hospice use hospital beds and oxygen every single day โ€” and a few simple safety checks can make a big difference.

Here are a few ways to keep your setup safe, comfortable, and worry-free ๐Ÿ‘‡

Top 3 Safety Checks for a
Keeping your loved one safe starts with the bed they rest in. Make these part of your regular routine:

โœ… Check bed brakes
Always lock the bed wheels when the bed isnโ€™t being moved. A rolling bed can lead to slips or falls.

โœ… Check power cords and remote controls
Look for loose, frayed, or damaged cords that could cause electrical hazards. Keep cords away from walkways so no one trips over them.

โœ… Adjust rails safely
Side rails should be secure and at a safe height. They shouldnโ€™t create gaps where arms or legs could get stuck. Adjust rail height based on your loved oneโ€™s mobility and needs.

Pro tip: Test the bedโ€™s height adjustment before bedtime. Keeping the bed in a lower position at night can help reduce fall risks.

Checklist for
Oxygen therapy is essential โ€” but it must be handled with care. Use this quick safety checklist:

โœ… Keep it clear
No smoking or open flames near oxygen equipment. That includes candles, gas stoves, fireplaces, and incense.

โœ… Secure the tubing
Make sure tubing isnโ€™t tangled or stretched across walkways. Use clips or guides to keep it close to walls and out of the way.

โœ… Check flow settings
Each time you use it, confirm the flow meter is set to the prescribed rate from your healthcare provider.

โœ… Store tanks safely
Keep oxygen cylinders upright, in a stand, or securely clamped to a wall. Never place tanks on a bed, sofa, or loose surface.

๐Ÿ’ก Did you know?
The New Jersey Department of Health recommends checking oxygen tanks regularly for leaks or wear. Ask your delivery staff to help you do a monthly check.

Tip of the Week
Serving families across New Jersey โ€” including Essex, Morris, Union, and Somerset counties โ€” Faith Hospice Care is committed to comfort, dignity, and safety at home.

Quick tip: Schedule a monthly safety review with your Faith Hospice nurse to look over all , including:

- Hospital bed settings and rails
- Wheelchair brakes
- Oxygen concentrator filters
- Emergency backup power and batteries

Why It Matters
A few minutes of safety checks = hours of peace of mind.
These small steps help protect your loved one โ€” and help our Faith provide the best possible care in the place that matters most: home. ๐Ÿก
