Myth: There’s one thing you can take to “boost” your child’s immune system.
Fact: Immunity is built through everyday habits, not a single product.

Myth: If a child gets sick a lot, their immune system must be weak.
Fact: It’s normal for kids to catch frequent colds, especially in daycare or school, because their immune system is still learning.

Myth: Supplements can replace the basics.
Fact: The biggest immune helpers are consistent sleep, balanced nutrition, vaccines, handwashing, movement, and stress support. Supplements may be helpful in specific situations, but they are not a shortcut.

There are times when frequent illness can be a red flag, like unusually severe infections, infections that are hard to clear, poor growth, or needing antibiotics over and over. If you’re worried, it’s worth talking with a pediatric provider.
If your pediatrician’s office is closed and you have questions, Fairhope Pediatrics has you covered. Book an appointment and speak to a pediatrician from home.

We know how stressful it can be when your little one gets sick, and we do our best to see all sick kids on the same day.

If you do call after 3 PM, we may need to schedule your child for the following morning, but don’t worry because our after-hours line is always available if you need guidance or assistance overnight.

Planning ahead and calling early in the day helps us make sure everyone gets the care they need as quickly as possible, but we understand that you cannot control when your child gets sick.

Did you know we also offer walk-in appointment slots? Walk-in hours can change so call our office to inquire.

Pityriasis rosea is a common, harmless skin rash that often appears in children, teens, and young adults. It usually starts with a single larger patch called a “herald patch,” followed days to weeks later by smaller oval-shaped spots on the chest, back, or abdomen. The rash can look alarming but is not contagious and typically isn’t caused by an allergy or poor hygiene.

Most cases resolve on their own within 6–8 weeks. Treatment focuses on comfort, such as moisturizing lotions, gentle soaps, and managing itch if present. While it can take time to fade, pityriasis rosea doesn’t leave scars and doesn’t cause long-term problems.

If you’re unsure about a skin change, reach out to our pediatric providers for guidance or save this post for reference.

Staff highlight time, say hi to Jada Norman.

Jada joined the team in late November and works as a medical assistant. One of her favorite parts of the job is getting to work with little people every day and helping keep them healthy.

Outside of the office, Jada loves painting with acrylics, camping, and spending weekends relaxing with her family. If she could have a superpower, it would be teleportation, and her most adventurous moment so far is kayaking and fishing from a kayak.

Her go-to mood boost is Chandler Moore Radio on Pandora, and her dream trip is Italy. She is also hoping to cross skydiving off her bucket list one day.

Jada describes her work style as organized, considerate, and swift, and she loves that our team feels like a family.

If you see her in the office, tell her hello and give her a warm welcome in the comments too.

If it feels like your toddler catches everything, you’re not imagining it.

Little immune systems are still learning, and toddlers are great at sharing germs especially in daycare or group settings. It’s normal for young children to have 8–12 viral illnesses a year, especially during fall and winter.

Colds can also seem “back-to-back” because viruses stack or symptoms overlap.

The good news? Each illness strengthens their immune system, and most are short-lived and resolve with rest, fluids, and time.

If your child’s illnesses seem unusually severe, frequent, or they’re not bouncing back as expected, call our office so we can help determine what’s normal and what deserves a closer look.

EPSDT (Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment) is a Medicaid benefit that ensures children receive regular checkups, vaccines, vision and hearing screenings, dental care, developmental assessments, and any medically necessary follow-up services.

These visits help detect issues early when they’re easiest to treat and ensure every child receives complete, age-appropriate care. An annual EPSDT is also required for needed referrals and to continue having insurance coverage.

If your child is covered by Medicaid, call us to make sure they’re up-to-date on their EPSDT visits.

If your teen is more tired than usual, it might not just be school stress. Low iron could be the culprit.

Iron deficiency is extremely common in teen girls due to growth, menstrual cycles, and busy schedules. Signs include fatigue, headaches, dizziness, and trouble concentrating.

Good sources of iron include lean meats, beans, leafy greens, and iron-fortified cereals, and pairing iron-rich foods with vitamin C helps absorption. In some cases, supplements may be recommended.

Think your teen might be anemic? Call today to schedule a quick screening. We can check iron levels and help get your teen back to feeling like themselves.

Let the good times roll!

Parades and parties are exciting, but they can be overwhelming for little ones.

Ear protection for loud noise, weather-appropriate clothing, hydration, and handwashing afterward all help keep kids feeling well.

Also, parades are often very crowded so always ensure your child knows what to do if they get separated from you.

Headed to a parade? Tell us what you are doing to keep your family safe.

Teamwork makes the dream work!

We had an amazing quarterly meeting with the Fairhope Pediatrics team at the Magnolia Co-working space in downtown Fairhope last week, and it was so good to have everyone in one place.

Getting the full team together to talk through our vision, set goals for the months ahead, and focus on how we can keep improving for our patient families always feels amazing.

We’re SO proud of our team and grateful for the way everyone shows up for our patients and for each other.
