That bright green staining you’re seeing? 👀💚
This is exposure keratitis — damage to the cornea that occurs when the eyes don’t fully close or stay protected, often during sleep.
When the ocular surface is exposed, tears evaporate too quickly, leading to dryness, irritation, burning, light sensitivity, and blurry vision. Fluorescein dye allows us to clearly visualize this surface damage so we can tailor treatment precisely.
💡 The good news: exposure keratitis is very treatable with the right dry eye plan.
At Handel Vision Clinic, Dr. Wise (Reghetti) focuses on identifying the root cause of dry eye and creating customized treatment plans, which may include:
• Advanced in-office dry eye therapies
• Heat-based treatments to improve oil gland function
• Prescription drops or nighttime ointments for protection during sleep
• Personalized at-home regimens for long-term relief
If you wake up with burning, redness, or gritty eyes, don’t brush it off. Chronic exposure keratitis can cause ongoing corneal damage if left untreated.
