Sandra Jo Inghram, born June 28, 1938, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2026 after a lengthy illness.
Daughter of Adda Mae Inghram and Harold Straight, Sandra grew up in Elkins, WV, Fairview, WV and Fairmont, WV in the care of her loving mother and grandmother. Out of high school, she worked as a clerk in the A and P Warehouse in Fairmont, then in 1967 began work at Fairmont in the nascent Computer Center, later in the Technology Department, and finally with the Department of Family and Consumer Science, retiring in 2004.
Sandra was a devoted daughter, making her mother’s last days comfortable at home. Following her teacher mother’s example, education was important to her, and she completed her Bachelor’s degree in History and French at Fairmont State, and after her retirement, a Master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology from Atlantic University.
Her life revolved around her faith in Jesus Christ, and her church, the Baptist Temple, Fairmont, and over the years she participated as a Sunday School teacher, and member of the choir, Women Working for God circle, and the Social Action team. She also treasured her work with Marion County Literacy Volunteers, helping adults improve their reading skills.
Sandra’s own love of reading was well known to her friends, and she read widely, especially political memoirs, and accounts of near- death experiences. She also loved to travel, and avidly participated in short trips with MCParks up until the last year of her life, her favorite destination being Amish country.
Sandra’s kind and compassionate nature drew many devoted friends to her, and she will be sorely missed by the many students she befriended at Fairmont State, by brothers and sisters in Christ at the Baptist Temple, as well as by her work colleagues, and her housemates.
Friends and family may call at the Baptist Temple Church, 430 Morgantown Ave, Fairmont, WV, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A service will be held at 1:00 pm with Reverend Dr. Robert Allan Copenhaver presiding. Interment will follow at The Woodlawn Cemetery.
