Diagnosing mycotoxicosis in ruminant animals can be difficult for several reasons including:
✅ Several mycotoxins may be present in a single feed, which can result in multiple unrelated symptoms
✅ In general, mycotoxins cause non-specific symptoms that are similar to other diseases
✅ Mycotoxins compromise the immune system allowing opportunistic disease to invade and the symptoms of the invading disease are treated instead
