Burial will be held next to her husband, Howard Simmering, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wilbert, MN. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Emma passed away Monday morning, January 19, 2026, at her home in Fairmont. Those wishing to view the service but are unable to attend are invited to go to the St. Paul Lutheran Church website: https://www.splfairmont.org/. Brett Andrew Smitherman died on Januray 9, 2026 in Fairmont, Minnesota. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Brett was born on August 16, 1983, in Marshalltown, IA to Gregg and Pattie Smitherman. He was the youngest of 3 children and grew up mostly in Fairmont with a love of all things related to the Minnesota Vikings, family, and creative arts. He found a passion in philosophy, woodworking, drawing, and welding.

Left to honor his life are his parents, Gregg and MaryEllen Smitherman, Pattie Vaughn Smitherman and siblings Johshua, Brittnie (Geno) Lambert, niece and nephew Logan and Quin. His partner in life Bri, and his children, Melody, Jude, Liam, Jaiden, and Sophia. He also leaves an extended network of bonus siblings, and close friends.

Brett’s legacy of gratitude, joy, perseverance and curiosity will be carried forward by all who knew him, especially his children. His death does not define his legacy. He had talents, made contributions, and touched others’ lives in meaningful ways. He was and still is. deeply loved.
