I specialize in helping couples achieve relationship satisfaction based on healthy connection and collaboration. My job is to teach you the skills, and coach you in the use of these skills to have a great relationship. If you feel like there is no hope, don't despair. Emotional flooding makes it hard to communicate well.

Emotional flooding is when one of you feels a big emotion and it hijacks the conversation. Once that happens, all bets are off.

When one or both of you are emotionally flooded, you will:

* hit below the belt.
* exaggerate.
* say mean things.
* shutdown.
* be dismissive.
* forget important things like you love each other.

And you will feel justified in fighting back.

Maybe alcohol isn't a problem. In marriage, it isn't just a question if one of you is drinking too much--often it's a problem of how it affects the relationship.

Your relationship is co-created with your spouse. 🤝🏼

To both find real happiness, your relationship needs to meet your needs AND your partner's needs. That means you need to work through the differences in your personalities and temperaments until you find a way to live well together.

💖 At its best, your relationship is the intersection of who each of you are. There is room for each of you to be your authentic selves. You can each grow individually and as a couple.

You might have similarities to other couples, but your relationship will be uniquely yours. Your relationship is supposed to have quirks that other couples wouldn't understand. That is what makes it so precious.

There are good relationship books and then there are GREAT relationship books.

This is one of Cheri's favorites.

This book should be required reading before marriage. It breaks down sexuality into understandable concepts so it's easy to make changes to your own life.

It's so good that even I learned a lot when I first read it.

During the Pandemic, I learned that Couples Therapy through telehealth is at least as effective as meeting in person.

A major benefit is that you meet with your therapist in your own home. That means that you learn the relationship skills in the same environment where you need to use them. You don't need to transfer the skills from the office to home.
