That was humbling- one of my preschoolers asked me if I’m a grandma.

Monday started strong despite the rain- an organized trunk and sensory activities for feet to optimize the balance and jumping activities that come later in the final Obstacle Obsession class at Perinton Community Center.

This is what the trunk of a pediatric therapist looks like Friday afternoon.

Dinosaur puzzle ✅

I love to see the progress from session to session. The balance bike only comes out once in awhile, but the foundation for these skills is built in every session in between.

Hip Dysplasia (meaning abnormal hip development) is when the hip joint (the ball and socket) isn’t full interlocked, leaving the ball of the femur “uncovered” by the hip bone. This can lead to discomfort, limping, poor posture, eventual arthritis if left untreated, and even dislocation if severe enough.

Sometimes, hip dysplasia requires surgical intervention… but sometimes, aggressive physical therapy can help to strengthen and build the supporting muscles and bones of the hip and femur to improve the severity of the dysplasia. This can even negate the need for more invasive interventions in some cases.

Orthotics offer many a non-surgical treatment option to support foot/ankle/leg weakness, pain, and encourage proper positioning/posture.

There are many different types of orthotics from shoe inserts to full-calf braces such as the AFO.

A physical therapist can help determine if orthotics may be an option for you and can help you find an orthopedist who can evaluate and fit you for orthotics.

Coleen from Lift Bridge has experience referring and working with clients who have orthotics and would be happy to help you too!

It’s never too late to start again… “tomorrow is always fresh” - to quote from a favorite movie, Anne of Green Gables 🥰

It’s holiday time!

Many households are extra busy this time of year. Special performances, “dress up like a reindeer” day at school, cookie exchanges, gingerbread house decorating, dinner parties, the list goes on and on 🎄

This is your reminder to pause. Take a breath. Take a break. You’re doing a great job! One day, one event, one hour at a time. And even if you don’t have all these things on your “to do” list, it’s still ok to take some time to rest. 😴

Many families choose to take a break from therapies over the holidays and often feel guilty doing so. Please know it’s OK to take a break! We’ll be here for you when you come back after the New Year! 🥳

I hope you all enjoy your holidays and are able to enjoy time together with your friends and families 🥰
