Gordon Chambers

Gordon Chambers, 73 of Swansea, IL, born August 23, 1952, in New Orleans, LA. Passed away on Sunday, October 12th, 2025, at Bradford Assisted Living with his wife by his side.

Gordon served in the US Army for 22 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class.

After retiring from military service, he went on to serve his community as a Normandy Police Sergeant for 18 years, retiring from the force in 2014.

Gordon was an avid fisherman and tennis player. When young, he enjoyed fishing with Auntie Bessie, and as the years went on, he continued the love of fishing with his son, Jimmy. While stationed in Hawaii during his Army years, he was especially proud to serve on the Army tennis team. Later in life, Gordon enjoyed watching westerns, sipping coffee, and eating candy. Above all, he was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who cherished spending time with his family.

He was preceded in his death by his mother, Rosemary Chambers; father Tucker Powers, Grandmother Agnes Bouliney (Toto), Aunt Bessie Claybush; Brother Leonard Chambers, and sisters Mary (Mae) Hayes and Betty (Bit) Matthews.

Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Denise Chambers of Swansea, IL; his two sons, James (Julienne) Chambers of O'Fallon, IL, and Jason Chambers of St. Louis, MO. His grandson, Jaden Chambers, and granddaughter, Joslynn Chambers, of Ofallon, IL. Sister Cheryl Chambers of Baton Rouge, LA, and lifelong friend Albert Thomas of Baton Rouge,

LA. And several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to BackStoppers.

The family would like to express their appreciation to everyone at Bradford Place Assisted Living and Ardnet Hospice.

Visitation: Wednesday, October 22, 2025 10:30-11:30AM. At Teat Chapel.
