RELAPSE IS NOT THE END

I recently had a young man I coach relapse after 11 months of sobriety. His father said to him, “I didn’t think you were going to be another statistic.”

Comments like that may come from fear or frustration… but they land like a ton of bricks.

People don’t understand the guilt, shame, and self-loathing that come with addiction and relapse.

I remember waking up in the morning and barely being able to look at myself in the mirror. When I did, I believed I was the most despicable person on the face of the earth. I hated who I had become.
