Essential Yoga Therapy

Essential Yoga Therapy EYT was established by Robin Rothenberg. Robin is a C-IAYT, and expert in Iyengar and Viniyoga.

Essential Yoga Therapy has two distinct missions: one is to offer a means for safe, personal healing to people living with chronic pain or illness through Client Based Yoga Therapy. The other is to help develop highly qualified yoga teachers and subsequently to provide comprehensive training in yoga therapy for teachers who are motivated to go deeper. Essential Yoga Therapy is run by the internationally renowned yoga therapist and author Robin Rothenberg. Robin has been training yoga teachers for the last fifteen years as an RYS 500. The EYT Therapist Training program was the first IAYT Accredited Yoga Therapist Training Program and has been since the creation of the accreditation process in 2014. Robin is also a regular presenter on Yoga U Online and offers workshops, trainings and clinics around the country. For more information on how EYT can help you grow in wisdom, self-awareness, and living a more conscious, joyful life, check out our website: eyt.yoga

If you love learning alongside other yoga teachers and therapists, consider checking out the Yoga Therapy Book Club. Sponsored by the Women Writers’ Collective in Yoga Therapy, it was created to bring greater visibility to the women authors and leaders shaping our field and to offer a space where we can learn together, exchange ideas, and support the continued growth of yoga therapy. Each month spotlights a different theme, with one or two featured authors sharing insights from their work and lived experience.

✨ Coming up in January:
Join live conversations with Shawnee Thornton Hardy and Rachel Krentzman, exploring yoga therapy for complex needs, healing, and lived experience.

It’s a thoughtful, welcoming space to connect with peers and learn from one another. Curiosity and an interest in shared learning are the only prerequisites.

The holidays can stir up a mix of things — joy, pressure, old memories, endless to-dos.
Even the parts we love can leave our bodies feeling overstimulated or tired.

Maybe gatherings feel louder than usual.
Maybe expectations feel bigger.
Maybe you’re carrying more than you let on.
Maybe your nervous system is doing its best to keep up.

Whatever you’re feeling… it’s valid.
You’re allowed to slow down.
You’re allowed to breathe before you respond.
You’re allowed to step outside for a moment of quiet.
You’re allowed to soften, even when the season feels full.

This time of year doesn’t have to be perfect —
just honest, gentle, and taken one breath at a time.

And if your system is asking for a little extra support,
our Holiday De-Stress workshop on Dec 14 might be the reset you need. 🌿

The Question Everyone Asks
"What makes yoga therapy different from a regular yoga class?"

The answer isn't in a textbook—it's in the room where a skilled therapist meets a client.
On December 11th, you'll see exactly what this looks like.

Watch Robin Rothenberg, C-IAYT (Chairman of IAYT), conduct a complete 90-minute session with a new client. Observe her assessment process, see how she personalizes breath work and movement, and witness the therapeutic relationship unfold in real time.

Then ask your questions in a live 30-minute Q&A.

📅 Dec 11 | 4-6pm PST
💻 Live Virtual Event
💵 $35 USD

This is your chance to understand what therapeutic presence actually means—and how it transforms yoga from practice into healing.

For yoga teachers considering the path of yoga therapy, this workshop offers clarity. For practicing therapists, it's a masterclass in real-time decision-making.

A simple seasonal self-care tip: warm sesame oil can become your best friend in Vata season. A little supply hack is to use a dropper or even a cotton ball with warm, good-quality sesame oil—it works beautifully for Abhyanga, foot massage, or gentle ear oiling to calm and nourish the nervous system.

This time of year, Vata tends to spike: more dryness, scattered thinking, disrupted sleep, and anxiety. These warm, oil-based home treatments are some of the most effective ways to counter those qualities and bring in a sense of steadiness, grounding, and ease.

On Dec 7, we’ll go deeper into these practices in our upcoming session, Ayurveda Self-Care for Vata Season.

In this hands-on session, you’ll learn treatments that:
✅ Soothe the nervous system
✅ Reduce anxiety
✅ Support healthy aging
✅ Ground you when life feels scattered
You'll practice Abhyanga, foot marma therapy, hand massage, Karna Purna, and Basti—tools you can use any time of year.
Perfect for your own self-care OR supporting clients through modern life's challenges.

December 7, 5-7pm PST with Taran Collis, C-IAYT, AWC
