Immediate Opening in a Pediatric Practice with Partial/Full Future Ownership Opportunity

This eight year old boutique pediatric OT practice has built a stellar reputation in their community and has a team of compassionate, and highly skilled therapists. The practice was providing over 75 weekly sessions prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and currently provides over 45 weekly sessions. The demand for primarily after-school sessions has consistently grown. The clinic is in a large ADA compliant center with ample parking. There are 2 spacious gyms, individual treatment rooms with individual plumbing, an office, and a kitchenette.

The practice is equipped with all the necessary suspension equipment and is fully equipped with assessments, therapeutic activities, and supplies. The practice is in network with 4 major insurance carriers. This is an extremely sound foundation with multiple long-term avenues for growth including group offerings, parenting classes, hosting CE seminars and especially expansion into speech and physical therapy. The current owner is ready to semi retire but wants to find the right pediatric therapist who is eager to work in the practice with an eye on bringing it to its full potential and owning it in the near future. The owner is willing to train, mentor and help the right therapist make this happen.

As things slowly reopen our kids are going to have more opportunities to see people wearing face masks, which will affect their nervous systems. Remember neuroception is our subconscious ability to detect whether a situation or person is safe, dangerous, or life threatening. It receives cues of safety and/or threat from the environments we are in (visual and auditory cues are two of the big ones). As I walked through Costco the other day I saw many different styles of face masks. My nervous system was on high alert. Some people wore bandannas, covering their entire faces, some wore theirs incorrectly exposing their noses, and some wore simple rectangular masks. They all had one thing in common, they all covered the person's mouth; hiding from my nervous system whether they were friend or foe. Our nervous system also finds cues of safety in a person's eyes. We are going to have to teach our children to look to a person's eyes to feel safe. Our nervous system is so smart it can detect a genuine smile from a social smile. A genuine smile recruits the muscles of the cheeks and the eyes, which brings the face alive and broadcasts safety. A social smile moves just the mouth, and sends a message of warning. As we wear our own masks we are going to need to be very mindful of our own tone of voice (auditory cue - the subject of my next email).

This article points out a host of deficits that occur when the developing brain is exposed to too much screen time. In my opinion it is the decrease in parent-child engagement that is most detrimental. When a family is on their devices there are less opportunities for connection and co-regulation.

Screen time use by infants, toddlers, and preschoolers has exploded over the last decade, concerning experts about the impact of television, tablets and smartphones on these critical years of rapid brain development.

Connection is the key!!!

We love these kids! They are often functioning in a state of stress that so many just see as behavior.
