Mayor Jon Mitchell announced $500,000 in grants to combat opioid misuse in New Bedford, supporting six local organizations selected through an open, competitive RFP process. These funds will advance projects aimed at reducing the lasting impacts of addiction across our community.
These grants are funded through the Greater New Bedford Opioid Task Force and the New Bedford Health Department, using resources from legal settlements with manufacturers, distributors, pharmacies, and other companies whose actions contributed to the opioid epidemic.
At Steppingstone, this funding will support our FAIHR Youth Initiative (FYI)—a targeted, community-based program focused on reducing opioid overdose risk among transitional-age youth (ages 16–24) in New Bedford. FYI will engage young people through outreach, mentorship, and evidence-based Critical Time Intervention, connecting participants to treatment, housing, education, employment, and recovery supports through coordinated care and warm handoffs.
We’re grateful for the City of New Bedford’s continued investment in prevention, recovery, and youth-centered solutions that strengthen our community.
