RBT - Employment Opportunity
Sign on BONUS if you are already a Registered Behavior Technician!!

Oasis ABA provides services to children and adolescents with autism and other related disabilities. We are looking for applicants for our Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) position. RBTs go into the home and clinic setting to work with clients on established treatment plans that are intended to increase client skills in a number of areas (e.g., general behavior management, social skills, adaptive/self-help skills, academic skills). There is training involved to become an RBT, but Oasis ABA will assist candidates through that process. Rate of pay is $22-$25/hr. DOE. Positions are usually part-time, but there may also be some full-time opportunities that become available. Average hours are 15-30 per week depending on employee availability. Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and complete a background check. If you are interested in obtaining more information on this opportunity, please contact Jennifer Thomas at jennifer@ ruralebs.com (remove space after @). Please EMAIL as messenger does not work correctly. Multiple Positions are available in the FERNLEY AND FALLON areas.
A High School Diploma is required for this entry level position.

April is here!

You’re going to read many posts telling you what to do & what to say, who to support & who to censor.

I’m not gonna do that.

I like the puzzle piece more than the infinity loop, but if you don’t, you’re not my enemy. How have we ended up letting this define friend or foe?

I support Autism Speaks, and I’m frustrated by all the misinformation being knowingly spread, unknowingly spread, unknowingly trusted by the masses who read it. There might be more misinformation and disinformation than actual facts. This is happening all over social media. That said, if you don’t support them, that’s your choice. I just hope you arrive at that choice through the truth.

I don’t have a strong preference when it comes to identity language. I might like ā€œI have autismā€ a bit more than ā€œI’m autistic,ā€ ā€˜cause I ā€œamā€ a whole bunch of things — not just that. But if you prefer identity-first language, I respect it! I can’t fathom a justification for others not doing the same.

For me and my oldest son, autism is a disability. There are universal methods of function and communication across societies and the world. The differences in us that our autism create, to varying degrees, make coexisting with society more difficult, not less. If you don’t see your autism as a disability, that’s your right. It’s not a matter of self-esteem or prejudice. It’s a personal perspective, and everyone’s is valid.

For autism awareness month, what I want is for people to understand that each autistic person is unique. We’re all different from each other. That means, we have different skills, different struggles, and different opinions.

No one speaks for the entire autistic community, including me.

For autism awareness month, let’s all try to drop generalized statements like ā€œautistic people hate the puzzle piece,ā€ and replace it with, ā€œI’m autistic, and I personally don’t like the puzzle piece symbol becauseā€¦ā€

Just remember that you’re going to see contradictory information about autism, simply because autistic people are not a monolith. What you want to be aware of is that anything you read represents that autistic’s opinion, whether they say that or not.

Let’s celebrate our individuality. Happy autism awareness month! šŸ’™
