Did you know that insufficient sleep can affect both mental and physical health and that women are 40% more likely to be diagnosed with insomnia than men? Researchers think biological differences between men and women, like hormone production circadian rhythms, may be the cause. To get the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep each night, experts recommend sticking to a sleep routine, avoiding naps after 3 pm, passing on caffeine, alcohol, and smoking, and maintaining a daily exercise routine. Your healthcare provider may also be able to help treat some symptoms of estradiol deficiency, including bladder control and night sweats, that may contribute to poor sleep. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services OWH recommends that all women should get two and a half hours of physical activity each week. Not only does a healthy amount of exercise contribute to cardiovascular and muscular strength and endurance, but it also helps regulate hormone levels and reduce stress.

Yoga, meditation, or deep breathing can also support healthy hormone levels and help to ease stress and other symptoms of estradiol deficiency. There’s no better time than to talk to your healthcare provider about how you can add exercise into your daily routine and stay healthy.

Although even ChatGPT itself admits its artificial intelligence (AI) is no substitute for a doctor’s nuanced expertise, a recent study showed that patients preferred responses from ChatGPT over physician responses — at least when it came to both quality and empathy.

According to CNN, a panel of licensed health care professionals assessed the responses to about 200 patient medical inquiries relating to medical diagnoses, the need for medical attention and more, and AI scored 21% higher than physicians when it came to quality of responses and 41% higher when it came to empathy. Although researchers said ChatGPT does communicate in a way that “instills confidence,” there’s still the worry of amplification of misinformation when it comes to clinical advice and AI. Medical laboratories play an important role in the diagnosis and management of POI. Blood tests can measure follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and estrogen levels, which are typically elevated in women with POI, as well as conduct genetic testing that may uncover other underlying causes of the disease. In addition, bone density testing may be performed to screen for osteoporosis, which can be a complication of POI.

This week, during , My 28 Days salutes the important role of medical laboratories in healthcare and recognize the essential contributions medical labs and their staff have on patient care and public health. Thank you for your commitment to work alongside us to improve women’s menstrual and ovarian health. 🙏
