🩸✨ Blood Donation Awareness Month = meaningful conversations + lots of fun!

Today, our team—APPE student Taha, Dr. Demery, and Dr. Anwari—visited Lorton Community Center to lead a workshop on Blood Donation Awareness. The seniors were so engaged and asked a great question: “Can someone donate blood at any age?” 👏🏽

We talked about the lifesaving importance of donating blood, cleared up common myths, and shared simple ways everyone can support this cause 💙

And of course…the BINGO game stole the show 😄🎉 Let’s just say it got very competitive!

Kicking off 2026 strong 💊✨ Today, we hosted our first workshop of the year with ECDC, focusing on Medications, Vitamins, & Supplements—one of our most requested topics!

We covered OTC medications, medication safety, and essential tips on using vitamins and supplements wisely. Huge thank you to Dr. Shafiq for making this session so engaging, and to everyone who joined us—what an amazing turnout!

This one-year postgraduate fellowship offers pharmacists a meaningful opportunity to serve diverse, uninsured communities through culturally competent care, health equity advocacy, and collaboration with local and national partners. If you’re passionate about making a real impact in safety-net settings, this program is for you.

NSC led an engaging session in honor of Disability Awareness Month, where we discussed key objectives like understanding different types of disabilities, recognizing barriers to inclusion, using respectful and inclusive language, and exploring practical ways to create more accessible and welcoming environments for everyone.

We were so grateful for the open and thoughtful conversations, especially as attendees shared their own lived experiences and ideas for building more inclusive spaces. It was such a joy to connect with everyone right before the holidays, and we can’t wait to see you all again in the New Year!

Yesterday, December 3rd, our incredible EBYM team—our wonderful Safety-Net Health Equity Fellow Dr. Demery, our amazing fourth-year APPE student Dena, and our dedicated volunteers Jim and Angela—presented a powerful workshop at WCOA in honor of Disability Awareness Month. The session covered disability types and challenges, accessible medications and devices, and celebrated disability representation in media while addressing stigma and stereotyping. Attendees enjoyed fun giveaway items, including adorable animal-shaped sticky notes, and wrapped up the event with an engaging trivia game!
