Air Force Nurse Corps leadership, Brigadier General Foster and CMSgt Lee visit our outstanding medics at Walter Reed National Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit. These visits are a vital opportunity for leadership to connect with our Airmen and see firsthand the critical missions they execute every day.

At Walter Reed, we saw the incredible dedication of our medical teams during tours of the medical units, such as the advanced Simulation Center, the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The professionalism and life-saving care on display were truly inspiring.

The visit continued at the White House Medical Unit, where our medics stand ready to provide essential medical support in a unique, no-fail environment. Engaging with the team and understanding their mission was a profound reminder of the diverse and crucial roles our medics fill.

Seeing the mission through the eyes of our people is what it's all about. We are incredibly proud of the expertise and commitment of our Total Nursing Force. A special thank you to the teams at Walter Reed and the White House Medical Unit for their hospitality and for the exceptional work they do around the clock.

The Air Force Nurse Corps leadership team, led by Brig Gen Foster and CMSgt Lee, conducted a comprehensive visit to National Capital Region medical facilities last month. Outstanding performers across Uniformed Services University, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Joint Base Andrews, Defense Health Headquarters, and the Pentagon were recognized for their trailblazing efforts and unwavering dedication. Key topics discussed included readiness, conflict preparedness, nursing roles and innovative ways to enhance patient care. These meetings allowed for valuable feedback from our Total Nursing Force and helped align efforts with the Air Force Medical Service strategic imperatives.

Good morning, Total Nursing Force,
The message below is sent on behalf of our Corps Chief, Brig Gen Foster.

Good morning/afternoon/evening TNF family,

As I prepared to write my next At the Bedside, this weighed heavily on my heart with everything occurring in my AOR ….
In times of deep sorrow and uncertainty, words often fall short. Over the past several days, we have faced heartbreak together — the devastating floods in Texas have taken lives, shaken our communities, and left many of us grieving and searching for solid ground. Through this storm, I’ve watched each of you show incredible strength, compassion, and unity.

To our nurses and technicians — the heart of our care — I want to say thank you. While you too carry heavy burdens, you’ve continued to care for others, to comfort those in pain, and to support one another. Even in the face of unimaginable loss, your courage and kindness have been a source of light.

I know this hasn’t been easy. Many of you have lost friends, neighbors, even loved ones. Some of you are still dealing with the impact at home. Please know that your feelings are valid, and you don’t have to carry them alone. We are a team — more than that, we are a family. And families support each other, grieve together, and rise together.

Resilience is not the absence of pain — it is the choice to move forward with purpose, despite it. And if there is one thing I know about our TNF family, it’s that we are resilient. We have proven time and again that we can face anything when we stand together.

In the coming days and weeks, let us continue to check in with each other. Let us lean on one another, uplift each other, and offer grace as we all heal in our own way. And let us honor those we have lost by continuing the work they believed in — showing up, caring deeply, and never giving up on each other.

We will get through this. Not because the road is easy, but because we will walk alongside together.

Blessed to serve alongside,
gf

GWENDOLYN "FIEND" FOSTER, Brig Gen, USAF, NC
