The jaw and the neck are connected!

Here’s one simple but very effective way to work on building connection between breathing and our neck and jaw mechanics.

Try this:
-tongue on the roof of your mouth. Don’t touch your teeth together or with your tongue.
-without moving your neck, slide your lower teeth forward until they feel like they’re in front of your upper teeth.
-stay there and breathe through your nose only while keeping all of your face, lip and neck muscles relaxed.
You might notice it’s a little easier to breathe here…

Hopefully, with some practice you can find a few helpful muscles in your facial region that get a little gentle work out. Remember, learning new movements can be tricky, be patient with yourself if you don’t get it right away.
Think of it as a way to feel “stable” in your jaw and face so the neck doesn’t have to do the heavy lifting for you!
