During last week's "Life at the Lighthouse" group children learned about navigation and lights including logbooks and telescopes. They decoratd their own "telescopes" and using their own "logbooks" to documentand draw ships they saw looking out the windows of the Museum.

We also enjoyed a read-aloud of the book "Hello Lighthouse" by Sophie Blackall , a Caldecott Medal-winning children's picture book that tells the story of a lighthouse keeper and his family through the seasons, from boiling tea and writing in his logbook to the eventual arrival of a new, automated light as they see today.

A big THANK YOU to Friends of Nobska Light for sharing their unique space for this special parent-child playgroup series. Our programs are offered at no cost thanks to the Coordinated Family & Community Engagement (CFCE) grant from MA Dept of Early Education and Care through Falmouth Public Schools - Massachusetts

Just a quick reminder that our groups don't meet when Falmouth Public Schools are closed, which means there will be NO music groups on Friday, April 3rd.

You can of course still visit the library to play and read together! The Falmouth Public Library has several musical books on their shelves that we recommend:

"Mole Music" by
"Musicians of the Sun" by
"Music Class Today!" by David Weinstone and and Vin Vogel Illustration
and many Sandra Boynton books (like "Snuggle Puppy" and "Wild Hog")
just to name a few!

During our final week of "Red, White & Blue in Falmouth Too!" we learned about the games and toys children played around the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We explored the art and artifacts at the Museum and made our own corn husk dolls.

A big THANK YOU to Falmouth Museums on the Green for this fun and educational series celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!

This week, our little artists read “Snail Trail: A Journey Through Modern Art” by Jo Saxton . Later, after learning about about the artist they created their own collages!

Open-ended "process art" activities celebrate the process not the product, an essential part to fostering a child's creativity! There are so many fun ways to bring nature activities indoors for little ones while practicing fine motor skills such as cutting, tearing, pinching, gluing, scooping, mixing, smashing and finger painting.
