It's my day off and I'm practicing what I preach- the importance of self care and health screenings!
Whether it is annual lab work and physical with your primary care or routine dental cleanings, it's important to stay up to date and make time for these routines to prevent disease and maintain your health.
But healthcare is expensive! I get it. Being self employed myself, I know that healthcare can add up and not always be the priority in budget. Which is why I've made it my mission to increase access to authentic healthcare and not just the luck of the Irish (Happy St Patrick's day btw). I offer my members a discount on labs, meds, vitamins and will work with you as your advocate to find affordable resources.
Self care is more than bubble baths! It's taking time, or a day off, to stay up to date and care for all of you!
Have a blessed day!

Happy Nutritional Awareness Month! This month I am highlighting pillars of lifestyle medicine and the role each plays in nourishing our bodies and health, along with some easy tips to implement!
This week let's look at our sleep patterns! Sleep is important to our physical, mental and emotional health as it restores our bodies to create space to repair, strengthens and regulation. Without sleep, or without enough sleep, we lack oxygenated systems that are primed for the demands of our day and may experience systems of fatigue, sluggish-sloth like and even brain fog.
Keep in mind that sleep is about quality and not the number of hours; although 7-9 hours is recommended, everyone "recharges" differently and the quality of your REM cycle patterned with the regulation of your nervous system helps you respond to the next day's to-dos.
Keep a schedule- even on weekends as this promotes regulation and patterns for a rhythmic circadian balance. Our bodies crave routine, rhythm and grooves- well at least routines and rhythm. And find serenity in your environment- what can you control that is helpful; lighting, temperature, blankets. While your cat meowing at 3am may not be in your control a weighted blanket, cool temperature and reducing electronics and light are and promote healthy sleep.

Hey friends!
I wanted to share a life trick and common medical treatment- the buddy system!
In lifestyle medicine this principle is about pairing two tasks instead of multitasking or sacrificing our to dos and time, it's about creating opportunities, support and accountability. When a toe is broken, in medicine we splint it to the surrounding for stability while it heals. Creating a buddy system creates the practical space for growth. Now consider a task you do daily or have to do, like brushing your teeth and buddy or pair it with something you want to do- like being more physically active and getting in your steps. While brushing your teeth, walk around the room or better yet work on your stability by standing on one foot and alternating which builds leg and core strength. Side note- this is fun and a great habit with kids to teach them to be a flamingo brushing their teeth!
Have fun with the buddy system whether it's a dinner dance party, squats while you unload the dishwasher or push-ups in between answering emails. Make the buddy system your own and create opportunities for growth!

Happy Pi Day!
Once upon a time, I was a member of my high school Math Team but that doesn't mean I had perfection and memorized Pi but appreciated it.
PIES also stands for your health! It stands for Physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual health and is a tool used to check in with what takes away from your pie (you) and what ingredients help create it.
This weekend consider what's in your pie? What helps make you tasty like a blueberry treat on a summer day or festive like a pumpkin slice surrounded by joy and also what may eat away at your slices. Life is about balance and not perfection- don't worry about memorizing the Pi but appreciate your pie!

With March being Nutritional Awareness month, I wanted to highlight some amazing (and cheap) foods and how to make them!
Kale is a beautiful leafy green that can be cooked, served and saladed (I made that word up) so many great ways and has benefits from fiber to iron and calcium to enrich immune systems, muscle support and digestive health!
One of my favorite ways to make Kale is to toss it with olive oil, salt and pepper, garlic (garlic on everything) and roast in the oven to crisp and then use it to top fish dishes, add a crunch to salads or simply use as a satiety salty snack.
Have a healthy day and nourish your body!

Food is not only fuel but nutrients to help our immune system, cognitive function, digestive health and more. Food also offers a comfort with nostalgic memories and opportunities to bring people together for social support, celebration and stress resilience.
Food is so much more than what's on your plate! Take your medicine today and enjoy your meal and the power of nutrition!

Women's health is more than just mammograms and pap smears, it is an appreciation that symptoms of disease and our bodies manifest differently.
Women are twice as likely to have symptoms of GI disease from colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, crohn's disease and more. This increased susceptibility is due to the intestinal lining being affected by hormones, motility and pelvic function. It isn't a weakness but the constellation of position, function, and biology alters flora, digestion and impacts bowels and body.
If you are 45 years and older, you may be due for a colorectal screening- contact me today for a free consult and testing.

It's important to me to create an environment where patients feel validated, trusted, safe and where communication is affirmed. And it's especially affirming when they share their positive experiences!
I not only strive to provide an authentic environment to genuinely care for you but to wholeheartedly care for you. I have negotiated prices on labs, imaging and medications to get you the best access to healthcare with your membership. I recognize that healthcare is holistic and even financial stress plays a role in the cost of care.
