Treatment Collaborative for Traumatized Youth

Treatment Collaborative for Traumatized Youth TCTY utilizes a Learning Collaborative approach to disseminate evidence-based mental health services for traumatized youth and their families.

Our mission is to enhance the availability of evidence-based mental health treatments for traumatized individuals in North Dakota through implementing results-driven therapy and building a multidisciplinary collaborative network across the region Research supports the use of a Learning Collaborative model to circulate treatments. Additionally, our training team believes that this model is the most effective means to promote successful implementation, adoption, and spread of evidenced-based practices. We conduct and facilitate trainings on trauma-specific and evidence-based treatments using the learning collaborative model. We have trained clinicians in several models over the years such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), structured psychotherapy for adolescents residing in chronic stress (SPARCS), alternatives for families cognitive behavioral therapy (AF-CBT), and honoring children and mending circles (HC-MC) TF-CBT.

Rethinking Challenging Behaviors with the Brain in Mind. In this talk, Dr. Bryson brings her No-Drama Discipline perspective to everyday parenting challenges. She reframes discipline to mean teaching skills and helps parents understand what children’s behavior is really communicating. By “chasing the why” behind behavior and using day to day moments to effectively help kids become self-disciplined, parents will discover how combining nurture and structure supports regulation, builds skills, and strengthens relationships. When adults respond with curiosity and connection, combined with limits and rules—rather than fear or force—behavior changes, conflicts become opportunities for building the brain, and connection deepens. Complete with a little brain science, candid stories, practical tools, and a great deal of compassion and humor, this talk helps parents work with their child’s developing brain while setting clear, consistent limits.

Some children experience trauma. Some are neurodivergent. Many experience both. Understanding the difference, and the overlap, helps families, teachers, clinicians, and caregivers support kids in ways that feel respectful and healing.

📱

When kids have behavior and attention issues the first explanation that comes to mind is often ADHD. But exposure to trauma can also cause symptoms that look like ADHD. And trauma is often overlooked when kids are misdiagnosed with ADHD.
