The March issue of the newsletter is out, and there’s one development we want to spotlight that didn’t make it into the legislative corner: H.R. 7661, a newly introduced national book‑ban bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill targets—like so many others in this wave of censorship—any books that include references to LGBTQ+ people or acknowledge their existence in society, with transgender individuals singled out most directly.

Efforts to strip LGBTQ+ representation from literature and media are not neutral policy choices; they are attempts to erase people from public life by erasing them from the stories we’re allowed to access. As Jon Rosenthal reminds us, “Those who ban books are never on the right side of history.”

Minnesota was recently shaken by the tragic events in Minneapolis resulting in the loss of Alex Pretti, RN. We hold Alex's loved ones in our hearts as we stand with all of those feeling grief, fear, or anger in the wake of his death.
