International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day is designated by the United States Congress as a day when the friends and family of those who have died by su***de can join together for healing and support. This day always falls on the Saturday before American Thanksgiving.

In 1999, Senator Harry Reid introduced a resolution to the United States Senate which led to the creation of National Survivors of Su***de Day. Reid was a survivor of his father's su***de.

Every year, the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention sponsors International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day, a program that unites survivors of su***de loss across the world. These events help survivors cope with the tragedy of losing someone to su***de. This year, the AFSP North Dakota Chapter will host activities for you to safely connect, support one another, and share stories on Saturday, November 22.

We will be participating in the Fargo-Moorhead International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day and we invite you to join us on Saturday, November 22, 9:00-11:30 a.m.

Please join us at: West Fargo Fire Station (1201 10th Ave E, West Fargo, ND 58078)

This event is intended for adult su***de loss survivors. Continental breakfast provided.

As we turn back our clocks for Daylight Savings Time, let us also pause to honor those who are no longer with us. May the quiet morning hours bring gentle memories of loved ones lost, and may we cherish the time we shared, holding their spirit close as we greet the new day.

It’s not every day you get invited to talk about funerals in a high school Latin class! 😄

Today, Jim Boulger and Marty Baumgartner spent the morning at Fargo Davies and Fargo North High Schools sharing stories and answering questions about the funeral profession — what it’s like to serve families, the challenges of the work, and the deep rewards that come with helping others.

Fun fact: Jim is a proud Fargo South Bruin and former Latin class alum himself, so it was extra special to reconnect with students continuing that same tradition today.

Big thanks to the students and staff for being so engaged and curious — we loved your thoughtful questions and your openness to learning about a career centered on care and compassion.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the sailors who have served and sacrificed in the United States Navy. Their courage, devotion, and ultimate sacrifice have safeguarded our nation’s freedom from the sea to the stars.

On this World Mental Health Day, we pause to remember those we have lost to the silent struggles of the mind and heart. Their stories remind us of the profound impact mental health has on our lives and communities. May we honor their memory by breaking the stigma, spreading compassion, and supporting one another with kindness and understanding. You are not alone, and together, we can make a difference.
