Week three is all about quick check-ins with your body. Long stretches of sitting at a desk, in the car, or on the couch can quietly build neck pain, back discomfort, and shoulder tension. A simple posture pause once an hour helps break that cycle before it turns into something bigger.

This does not need to be complicated. Stand up and stretch, roll your shoulders back, gently extend your spine, or reset how you are sitting. These small posture resets help reduce strain and prevent the slow buildup of discomfort we see so often in the clinic.

Try setting a reminder on your phone to prompt you to move. Those small pauses now can save you from bigger issues later.

For week two, the focus is simple. Move a little more than yesterday. There is no magic step count and no pressure to hit a big number. Walking works because it is easy, accessible, and something your body is built to do. Adding a few extra steps each day helps keep joints moving, reduces stiffness, supports balance, and even lowers stress.

It does not have to look like a long walk outside, especially during a Fargo winter. It can be parking a little farther away, taking a short walk after meals, or doing a few laps around the house... it all counts. If you want to keep track, write down your progress or simply keep track of the days you move! Consistency matters far more than intensity, and this habit is about building momentum you can actually keep.

Struggling with sleep lately? PT may help!

⛅️Shorter days, 🥶colder weather, and 😖winter aches can make restful sleep harder to come by. When movement is limited, your body’s melatonin production may drop, making it harder to fall and stay asleep. Physical therapy here at Bodyworks can help. By improving mobility, easing joint tension, and addressing pain, our therapists support your body’s ability to relax and rest. Techniques like manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and balance training help reduce discomfort and create a calming pre-bed routine.

If sleep has been hard to come by, request an appointment to get a plan tailored to help you move better and rest easier.

January is resolution season and while motivation is high, lasting health is built through small, consistent habits. That is why we are kicking off a new series: Small Habits to Improve Your Health in 2026. Because... you've got this!

Habit 1: Daily 10 Minute Mobility. This one is simple and very doable. You do not need a full workout or special equipment. Just take 10 minutes to gently move your body on purpose. A few stretches for your neck and back, opening up your hips and shoulders, or slowly moving joints that feel stiff is enough to make a difference. This habit is especially helpful during Fargo winters when it is easy to sit more and move less. Think of mobility like brushing your teeth for your joints. A little bit each day goes a long way when you stay consistent.

Follow along for more habits next week and read our blog to learn more: https://www.bodyworksfargo.com/new-years-resolution-series-small-habits-to-improve-your-health-in-2026/
