🎉 Honoring a Centenarian Hero, Wilbert “Willy” Blauert! 🎉
We are proud to recognize Mr. Blauert, who turned 100 this past August, for his remarkable service and dedication to our great nation. As a WWII Army Veteran, Mr. Blauert recalls landing in Okinawa just after the atomic bomb had been dropped. While there, he collected shell casings and even crafted an airplane out of them when he returned home.
The Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Doug Collins, has recognized Mr. Blauert's immense sacrifices and contributions with the prestigious Centenarian Award. This recognition is a part of the Centenarian Recognition Program, which honors VA-enrolled Veterans who have reached the milestone of 100 years. Recipients receive a personalized letter and a challenge coin to commemorate their extraordinary journey.
Mr. Blauert, you embody the spirit of the “Greatest Generation” with your legacy of patriotism and honor. We extend our deepest gratitude to you and your family.
If you know a VA-enrolled Veteran who deserves this honor, you can nominate them for the Centenarian Award. For more details or to get a nomination form, reach out to the Center for Development & Civic Engagement at VHAfar100years@va.gov.
