Let’s re-introduce Amanda!
How long you've been at Becoming Balanced?
"1 year. "

Licenses that you have?
"LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) in ND.
LICSW (Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker) in MN."

What your specialties are, what you find rewarding about it?
"ADHD, As someone who wasn't diagnosed and treated for ADHD until adulthood, I understand what's it's like to experience a lifetime of difficulties and the impact this has on functioning. I feel really passionate about helping other women discover if ADHD is present for them and educating them on the many ways that it can affect their lives and finding coping skills.
Older Adults, This is a special period in one's life with lots of changes. Therapy often looks slightly different with this population, and I have found it takes a certain kind of therapist to walk that road with them. I love getting to hear their lifetime of stories and helping them cope with whatever adjustments they're going through, and come to terms with their past.
Sleep issues, Recently I was trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). I have always believed sleep to be very important for our well-being and make sure to provide education on sleep hygiene. And now, it's great to be trained in a particular evidence-based treatment for insomnia, because many clients struggle with their sleep."
What else are you trained in?
"CBT, DBT, Perinatal mental health, The Gottman method, Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD, and Motivational Interviewing."

What's your favorite way to spend your days off?
"Full honesty - days off from work - I'm usually trying to get caught up with things at home. Sometimes I will give myself "true" time off - during which I like to color, listen to music, podcasts, and audiobooks, hangout with friends and family, watch TV, and take naps. "

What does self care look like to you?
"Taking days off from both work AND being a mom/wife.
I also think of basic self-care - taking a shower, brushing my teeth, cooking and eating healthy meals, exercise, going to doctor/dentist appointments, etc. We often don't think of these as self-care, but truly SELF-CARE IS ANYTHING YOU DO TO CARE FOR YOURSELF and IT IS NECESSARY - WE DO NOT HAVE TO EARN IT! "

What's your favorite thing about working here?
"I have been searching for years for a setting that would allow me to have flexibility to have a better work/life balance. I finally found that at Becoming Balanced. Our team of ladies here are phenomenal and I feel really supported."

We have partnered with our neighbors, Nuvation Health Services, to provide for our clients and community members in need. We have a pantry set up in the entry way to our office and it’s FULL! Food and household supplies are expensive so we encourage any who need help to please swing by during business hours and take what you need. If you want to donate, please drop off what you can. We even have farm fresh eggs right now from Dr. Zielke’s chickens!

Not everything you’ve heard about ADHD is true. Let’s talk about facts, challenge the stereotypes, and bring a little more understanding to the conversation. ✨

If this sounds like you please consider:
📲Reaching out to your therapist or medication provider about getting assessed.
💬 Getting care established with a mental health professional

💥 Are you ready to do some myth-busting?

🙇🏻‍♀️ ADHD is often misunderstood, and the myths surrounding it can make it harder for people to get the help and support they deserve.

🧠Let’s separate fact from fiction and being more understanding to what living with ADHD really looks like. ⬇️

And, as always, if any of these sound like you please consider doing the following:
💬 Speaking with your therapist or medication provider for further assessment
☎️ Establishing care with a mental health professional

Today we’re reintroducing Kenzie! 💜

How long have you been at Becoming Balanced?
“Since January 2024!”

What licenses do you have?
“I’m a Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist!”

What are your specialties, and what do you find rewarding about it?
“My specialties are Medical Billing, and (unofficially) empathy. I find my job rewarding because I understand that falling behind on bills can be stressful and intimidating, especially when someone is already struggling with their mental health. Financial strain and mental health challenges often go hand in hand, and sometimes, a little compassion, understanding, and flexibility within reason can make a huge difference. Being able to ease that burden — even just a little — while someone is getting back on track with their payments is what makes this work meaningful to me.”

What’s your favorite way to spend your days off?
“A perfect day off would absolutely start with coffee. Then I would “put my face on” to go have brunch/lunch with family and/or friends, then back home to play a video game, Magic the Gathering, or read a book while snuggling my kitties!”

What does self-care look like to you?
“Self-care, for me, has always been about taking care of my appearance. Putting a little extra time to be intentional with what makes me feel the most confident really makes me feel like I’m prioritizing myself. And, there’s just something really fun about getting dolled up.
My favorite way to do that is sitting at my vanity with a good playlist on and taking my time with my hair and makeup.
On days when I don’t have as much time, self-care would typically look like taking a long bath with a good book or spending an extra five minutes at night doing a facemask and skincare.”

What’s your favorite thing about working here?
“My favorite part of working here is for sure the people and the culture. Every day, I’m surrounded by coworkers who are kind, compassionate, and care the work we do. It’s a supportive environment where everyone wants to see each other succeed, and that makes it a really special place to be.”

Welcome to Becoming Balanced

Hello! I’m Dr. Zielke and I am going to give you my version of the story of how Becoming Balanced came into being. Trishia and I began the journey of developing “Becoming Balanced” after I attended the Women’s Health Conference on September 17, 2018. I was at the conference that day with my mother and was super excited for the afternoon keynote speaker, Danielle LaPorte, as I had been a fan for a couple years (I was even able to get a book autographed and my photo taken with her!). (Put photo in). During Ms. LaPorte’s talk, she discussed how important reaching women is to her, her own struggles in being a business woman, and evaluating all things in life as either “light” or “heavy”. I had been struggling in life leading up to that day and I started to reflect on how most things in my life seemed “heavy” at that point. I spent the rest of the day in solitude, mulling over what would feel “light” to me and allowing myself to dream big. The result of all of that mulling was “Becoming Balanced”. I knew opening my own business would be difficult to do alone and there was only one person who came to mind when I thought about sharing the journey. Trishia has been my friend and colleague since 2012. She is an amazingly strong, independent, and passionate woman who serves as a daily inspiration to me. I approached her immediately the next day about my idea and she was hooked (after I assured her we would be successful). We had many discussions about our rationale for starting our own business as well as how to manage the challenges which will likely fuel many blog posts to come.

For me, flexibility in my schedule and being able to follow my passions were the two major reasons for starting Becoming Balanced. I found myself struggling with finding time to care for my health and family, work, and make time for all the wonderful people in my life. Working 8-5 Monday through Friday does not work with my lifestyle anymore and acknowledging that was difficult. My sincerest hope in developing Becoming Balanced is to help the women in the Fargo-Moorhead community put into place the services and skills, in an accessible way, that they need to live their best most balanced life.

Now it’s Trishia’s turn to tell her version of the story:

The journey of “Becoming Balanced” has been nothing short of amazing thus far. I was so excited when Dr. Zielke approached me with this idea, however, I was hesitant at first. I already have a lot on my plate and I have never been much of a “risk taker”. But, when she said to me “Why can’t we do this?, We can do this!”, I realized this is absolutely true! Since becoming a mom over 10 years ago, it has seemed like an ongoing challenge to find the work/family balance that I desired. This is a common theme that I also hear from clients. It was time to take my own advice, “you need to do what works best for you and what is going to make you happy”. Just like Dr. Zielke identified, working 8-5 Monday-Friday was not working for me. The main motivators for me in starting Becoming Balanced include the need for flexibility, doing the work that I am driven and passionate about-helping and empowering women, and frankly to be able to take better care of myself and my family. Life is too short to not even try to do amazing things!
