Have you ever heard of Buffalo Bowling? We had it at our recent Easter Egg hunt for special needs children and adults. The LIFE INC- Center for Independent Living hosted this event back on March 28th and a crew from Buffalo Wild Wings of Farmington, came in and set 'em up so our guests could knock 'em down! They provided great prizes for the kids and adults and offered a lot of excitement when the pin would go crashing down. Thank you for giving of your time, energy, and your back muscles. I think we are going to make your bowling alley, table-top style next year!

The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks or simply, The Elks, is an American fraternal order and charitable organization founded in 1868 in New York City. Mineral Area Community Elks 2583 has been a big part of the communities of Bonne Terre, Desloge and Park Hills. They frequently raise funds and make donations to many non-profit organizations, families in need and other great causes. They recently provided a donation to LIFE INC- Center for Independent Living for our Easter Egg Hunt & Jelly Bean Jamboree. Because of their generosity and the generosity of others, we were able to make so many special needs children and adults enjoy a wonderful Easter event. Thank you all at Lodge 2583!

Today we recognize Bohring-Opitz Syndrome Awareness Day.

Bohring-Opitz Syndrome is a rare genetic condition that affects development and requires ongoing, specialized care. Many families navigating rare diagnoses face unique challenges, from finding resources to building support systems.

Awareness matters because it helps those families feel seen, supported, and connected, and it helps communities better understand how to include and support individuals with complex needs.

At LIFE Inc, we believe every individual deserves access, support, and a community that understands.

We are still sending out thanks yous to our many sponsors for this years' LIFE Center Easter egg hunt for special needs children and adults. We would like to send a SUPER BIG shout out to the St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled. Not only do they help us with a sponsorship, they send volunteers over on the day of the event to help us with games and activities and also bring many of their consumers to share the afternoon with us. These are people with huge hearts 💖💖💖💖💖 that really care for the well-being of the individuals they serve.

It was great fun for everyone at this years' special needs Easter Egg Hunt for special needs Children and adults. On Saturday, March 28th, children and adults from several surrounding counties can to Farmington to join in on the hunt. Staff of the LIFE Center For Independent Living joined with volunteers and some of the event sponsors to host the games. First State Community Bank of Farmington hosted the Spinning Wheel and Bunny Toss while a crew from Buffalo Wild Wings set up their very own bowling alley. St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled ran the Plinko game.
The children and adults were treated to all kinds of goodies from our local heroes. The Farmington Missouri Fire Department gave away fire helmets, plush toys and home fire safety booklets. The Farmington Missouri Police Department passed out badges instead of tickets that day and the St. Francois County Ambulance District gave tours of their Ambulance for everyone so it would not be so scary if needed in the future.
Along with all of the games and prizes as usual, there was your. not so traditional, Easter Egg Hunt. No running, racing falling behind or losing, everyone one was a winner by hunting at their own pace or hunting from their wheelchairs. Just take a look at these faces.

This is the second year that the Parkland Health Center has been a sponsor of our special needs Easter Egg Hunt for children and adults. Parkland Health Center is now a facility of BJC Healthcare and it brings a welcome connection to doctors from St. Louis down to our area. We would like to thank Parkland Health Center for their continuing support of the LIFE Center For Independent Living.

Our Story

In 1997, the LIFE Center (formally named L.I.F.E., Inc.) for Independent Living opened its doors with the goal of serving seniors as well as individuals with disabilities, regardless their age, in the Greater Parkland area of southeast Missouri.

“There’s no place like home,” is the mantra of the LIFE Center for Independent Living. At the Life Center, we are all about providing empowerment. We supply options.

Our greatest resource…our staff. Each member of our team is hand-picked with varied backgrounds to produce a unique product…exceptional, heart-felt support and advocacy. Over 51% of our governing board, management, and staff is comprised of individuals with disabilities which springs from the persuasion that people with disabilities understand how best to meet the needs of others with disabilities. This factor also creates a blend of sensitivity and understanding in the entire team.

The bottom line…we care about YOU!
