We are a Pain Management & Regenerative Medicine practice for pain, spine, musculoskeletal and joint care. We are offering cutting edge therapies including PRP therapy and stem cell therapies.
Regenerative medicine therapies are alternatives to the steroid injections, surgeries, failed surgeries, and prescription medications.
Dr. Roshni N. Patel is an Interventional Pain Management Physician and her last role was serving patients at Advanced Spine and Pain Care in Newington, CT. Dr. Roshni Patel is quadruple board certified in Pain Medicine, Headache Medicine, Brain Injury Medicine and Neurology with over 15 years of experience in treating patients. A graduate of University of Connecticut & UConn School Of Medicine, Dr. Patel earned her Pain Medicine fellowship at the prestigious NYU School Of Medicine (Ranked #3, 2018)
Dr. Patel is a leading Regenerative Pain Management specialist for pain, spine, musculoskeletal injuries and joint care. She uses your body's natural healing ability to repair damage to bones, muscles, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments non-surgically. With her quadruple board certifications, Dr. Patel is one of the only two physicians worldwide and considered highly qualified and trained in advanced regenerative pain management techniques. Dr. Patel’s unique background enables her patients to receive the full benefit and optimal outcome from regenerative procedures performed by her. She uses precise image guidance, advanced processing techniques and research to deliver unmatched regenerative results.
What is Regenerative Medicine?
Over the past decade there has been a growing field of medicine that utilizes the body’s own healing capabilities using platelet rich plasma and stem cells. This growing field is labeled as Regenerative Medicine. Regenerative therapies focus on healing and help regrow damaged tissue naturally. Regenerative injection therapy aka PRP injection therapy aka Stem cell therapy are used to provide relief to musculoskeletal injuries that involve damage to ligaments, tendons, cartilage, joints and discs.
What can regenerative therapy help with when it comes to Interventional pain management?
Regenerative therapy that utilizes the patient’s own blood or stem cells and other biologic options can be considered as an interventional option for musculoskeletal injuries, joint pain and back pain. Utilizing non-surgical regenerative therapy can help avoid the need for surgical intervention and /or conventional interventional pain management procedures that use steroids.
Regenerative injection treatments work best for chronic ligament and tendon sprains/strains that have failed other conservative treatment, including:
📷
· Osteoarthritis
· Rotator cuff injuries
· Shoulder pain and instability
· Tennis & golfer’s elbow
· Hamstring and hip strains
· Knee sprains and instability
· Patellofemoral syndrome and patellar tendinosis
· Ankle sprains
· Achilles tendinosis & plantar fasciitis
· Spondylolisthesis
· Spine Conditions including Spinal Stenosis, Degenerative Disc Disease
· Joint Injuries & Pain
· Chronic Pain
What are the benefits of regenerative therapy over conventional therapy?
Studies have shown that steroid injections or opioids which is a conventional therapy and helps promote pain relief but are detrimental in the long run. Whereas surgical intervention has longer recovery period, pain and opioids. Regenerative therapy offers less invasive, shorter recovery and less risky treatment option or musculoskeletal injuries, joint pain & back pain and can help avoid invasive, risky and expensive surgery. PRP or Stem Cell Injection therapy helps to delay and sometimes avoid the need of joint replacement or other surgical invasive procedures. Regenerative injection therapy is ideal for active patient who does not want surgery or cannot afford time out of work or active lifestyle for recovery.
What is the difference between PRP and Stem Cells?
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is derived from the patient’s own blood and is golden hay colored that is extracted after centrifuging using special centrifuge, processing and extraction technique. The platelets are in concentrated form and 6-8 times the base and highly concentrated and contains protein called growth factors and cytokines that enable healing cascade to promote healing and tissue growth to occur.
FDA regulations do not allow for cloning of stem cell or growing them in lab. Also, stems cells derived from fat cells are not approved by FDA as it does not allow for manipulation. This leaves us to another rich stem cell source in our body which is bone marrow. Stem cells exist in our body and are rudimentary cells that can differentiate into other cells. Think of bone marrow stem cell as the mother cell that is responsible of producing new blood cells. Bone marrow contain hundreds of growth factor and often used for severe degenerative condition or where PRP therapy may not be sufficient to provide the growth factors needed to provide relief.
Lastly, there are many off shoot therapies that use biologics derived from placental tissue or blood cord. These biologics are sometimes marketed as Stem cells but are not stem cells and contain zero viable cells. What they contain are growth factors that can also aid when combined with PRP or Stem Cells derived from your own body.
