Thank you to Believe 208: Run for the Brave & Finest . Great cause & a great race. Next year Dr. Zahedi Tangerine Project fully expects to keep honoring the memory of Mr. Matt Dobos annually. EVERY patient and colleague will be encouraged to come and run with him.

It is our honor this year to dedicate the "Believe 208 Run for the Brave and Finest" 5k to the memory of Matthew Dobos, who passed away on October 13, 2024.

Matt proudly served as a member of the United States Marine Corps and later had a lengthy career as a nurse with the Connecticut Department of Corrections.

We hope you will join us at the event to pay tribute to Matt's memory.

"The Alternative is Death."

To all Tangi-Friends,

As a psychiatrist, staying distant and stoic is part of the job. But when it is a neighbor’s child who dies from overdosing on opioids, a compulsion to share this message overcomes me.

Opioids are extremely addictive and they are the current scourge of our time. They are not the same as alcohol, co***ne, cannabis or m**h. Yes those are also dangerous substances but opioids are a different ball of wax. A good “high” can be just too much for the brainstem to handle. You pass out. Breathing stops. And its daily pull is just too strong.

So what do we do? You treat it. There is an answer but it needs a philosophical change in mindset. This is one instance where psychiatry and the law got it right. If someone you know is addicted to opioids and has the slightest desire to quit, introduce them to local provider who can prescribe buprenorphine. The idea is simple: you take som**hing for your opioid cravings, EVERYDAY, so as to ward off the demons of fentanyl, he**in, etc. Buprenorphine can also protect you against an overdose as it prevents those more potent compounds from binding to the evil receptors that kill!

“But doc, isn’t that just substituting one addiction for another?”

Yes it is. The difference is that with Buprenorphine you get to live. Far from perfect, but it works. Google it, talk to someone, or read. But live!
