Dr. Turner and Tauka had an important conversation during this visit… and it wasn’t just about puppy cuddles. 💜

Parasites don’t take a vacation in Farmville. Even during cooler months, many parasites remain active or quickly reappear when temperatures fluctuate.

‼️ In fact:
• Mosquitoes, which transmit heartworm disease, can become active when temperatures rise above about 50°F.
• Fleas can survive and reproduce indoors year-round, even when it’s cold outside.
• Ticks in North Carolina can remain active anytime temperatures are above freezing, especially during mild winter days.

That means all it takes is one warm afternoon, one mosquito bite, or one hitchhiking flea for pets to be exposed.

That’s why year-round parasite prevention is recommended for both puppies and kittens, helping protect them as they grow and explore the world around them.

Shy loading… 25%… 50%… 100% brave. 💛

Tex didn’t rush his first visit, and we didn’t either.

We believe first visits should move at their pace. Some pets hop right in. Others (like Tex) prefer to observe safely from their carrier before deciding we’re acceptable. And that’s perfectly okay.

A secure, comfortable carrier can make a huge difference, especially for small puppies and cats of all ages. It gives them:

🐾 A familiar, safe space
🐾 A sense of control in a new environment
🐾 A softer transition into the exam room

When they’re ready, we’re ready.

Tex started the appointment tucked in and unsure… and by the end, he was peeking out with confidence and curiosity. That’s what a positive first experience should feel like.

Farmville Families: If you have a shy pup or kitty, bringing them in a cozy, well-fitting carrier with familiar bedding can truly change the tone of the visit.

Happy Dog Biscuit Day!

We’re celebrating all week long… and Milo kicked things off the right way — a spa day + a snack. 🛁 ❤️

But did you know dog biscuits date back to the mid-1800s?
A British electrician named James Spratt created the first commercial dog biscuit after noticing pups snacking on leftover ship biscuits at a dock. And just like that, treat time was officially born.

Today, biscuits are more than just a crunchy reward. They’re part of training, enrichment, bonding… and sometimes a well-earned “you were so brave at the vet” moment.

Want to join the celebration?

🦴 Treat your pup to their favorite snack
🦴 Try a new enrichment toy with biscuit rewards
🦴 Bake a dog-safe homemade treat
🦴 Donate a bag of treats to a local shelter
🦴 Schedule a wellness visit (because preventive care pairs well with biscuits 😉)

Now it’s your turn!

📸 Drop a photo of your dog (or kitty) enjoying their favorite treat in the comments!

All the kitty cuteness lately! Charlie was in receiving fluids and some extra TLC… and Stormi had full reign over her exam room kingdom during her wellness visit.

Both looked content. Calm. Comfortable.

But here’s the important reminder: cats are incredibly good at hiding dental pain.

In fact, by age 3, most cats show signs of dental disease. And while we always examine the mouth during a wellness visit, an oral exam only shows us so much.

Dental disease often hides:
• Below the gumline
• Between teeth
• In areas we can’t fully evaluate without dental imaging

That means a quick look inside the mouth isn’t enough to rule out infection, resorptive lesions, or painful inflammation.

Dental disease isn’t just about bad breath. Bacteria from the mouth can affect the heart, kidneys, and overall health.

We provide comprehensive dental care that includes full evaluation under anesthesia, detailed assessment of each tooth, and thoughtful monitoring throughout the entire process, because preventive care should be thorough, not rushed.

A healthy mouth supports a healthier life. 💚

This is what Valentine’s Day looks like here. Caring hands, gentle hearts, and one very loved paw right in the middle of it all.

Every day, we’re reminded that veterinary medicine isn’t just about exams and treatments… it’s about connection. It’s about the pets who trust us, the families who love them, and the moments (big and small) that make this work so meaningful.

This Valentine’s Day, we want to celebrate the real love stories... the ones with wagging tails, soft purrs, and muddy pawprints.

📸 💬👇Now it's your turn! 💌 Drop a photo in the comments of your “fur-ever Valentine”! Let’s fill this feed with all the love.

Taylor and Chloe are spreading a little extra love this Heart Month ❤️

Before Chloe’s dental cleaning, she stopped by for some additional testing, because a healthy mouth and a healthy heart go hand in hand. Dental disease doesn’t just affect teeth and gums. Bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream and place added strain on the heart over time.

That’s why we take the extra step to look at the whole picture before procedures like dentals. Thoughtful planning, gentle handling, and preventive care all work together to protect long-term wellness inside and out. 🦷❤️

Six more weeks of winter?!
Punxsutawney Phil says yes… and our patients definitely have opinions 🐾❄️

Some love a good snow day! Zoomies, nose dives, and all. Others would rather curl up under a blanket and wait this whole thing out. Honestly? We support both vibes.

As winter weather sticks around, a quick reminder for our Farmville families:

❄️ Keep outdoor time short during cold snaps
❄️ Wipe paws after snowy or icy walks to remove salt and ice melt
❄️ Watch closely for seniors, small pets, and short-haired breeds who feel the cold faster
❄️ Skip long outdoor play when temperatures drop, indoor breaks are best
❄️ Remember, if it's too cold for you then it's too cold for our pets.

Due to weather we will be closed Monday, Feb. 2nd. We hope everyone is safe! Share your snow field fun below.❄️☃️

Heads-up, Farmville friends! ❄️

We’re in for several very cold days with chances of wintry weather this week. Highs will stay in the 30s–40s, with nighttime lows near or below freezing. The National Weather Service is also monitoring potential winter weather later this weekend, with snow and blustery conditions possible.

🚨 Cold Weather Reminder:
Outdoor time should be kept short and supervised during cold snaps. If it’s cold for you, it’s cold for your pets too, especially cats, small dogs, seniors, and short-haired breeds.

Before starting your car, tap the hood or make a little noise. Cats and other animals may seek warmth near engines, and this gives them time to move away safely.

Cold days are also the perfect time to focus on winter pet safety and fun indoor enrichment for your furry family ❄️🐶🐱

👉 Outdoor Cold-Weather Care:
Shorten outdoor time, watch for shivering or lifted paws, use coats or booties when needed, wipe paws after walks, and keep cats indoors during cold snaps.

👉 Busy Minds, Happy Dogs:
Puzzle toys, treat games, learning new tricks, rotating toys, scent games, calm indoor play, and long-lasting chews.

👉 Cozy Cat Activities:
Wand toys and play hunts, climbing spaces and tunnels, rotating toys, short daily play sessions, and warm window perches.

Stay safe, stay warm, and keep those tails wagging, even when you’re indoors! ❤️

Smiles come easy around here ❤️

Taylor shared some extra snuggles with Georgia, while Sugar (just 6 months old and already 73 lbs!) enjoyed a frozen Kong treat during her very first visit.

First visits aren’t just about vaccines. They’re about helping puppies learn that the vet is a safe, positive place. Small moments like gentle handling, familiar faces, and a tasty distraction help build confidence that lasts a lifetime.

Early, positive experiences can:

🐾 Reduce fear and anxiety at future visits
🐾 Support better behavior during exams
🐾 Make preventive care easier as pets grow
🐾 Help puppies feel secure in new environments

A little kindness goes a long way, and today was a good day, made better.
