"My Aunt spent the last year and a half of her life at Autumn Care Karns. I am so thankful for the love and exceptional care she received. It’s a beautiful place and the staff treated her like their very own Aunt. In fact, the staff didn’t even call her by her first name, she was always called “Auntie”, which was so endearing to her. Auntie was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia 3 years ago when I had her at another Assisted Living facility in Knoxville. What a devastating disease, she was a nurse for 40 years and super independent by nature. As she progressed, the management at her old facility wanted to move her to “Memory Care” which was in the basement. This was her worst fear, as she felt that was where people went to die. I don’t fault the facility though, it’s a typical scenario in order to “secure” those who are considered “exit seeking”.
Thank God for Autumn Care because they have a much different approach with memory care, which allows people to age in place and stay with all their friends, live in the same room, and live out their lives with much more dignity and less fear.
We therefore decided to move Auntie to Autumn Care where she could remain among the general populace and she loved every minute of it. She was still able to enjoy life as much as she could, attending most every activity, including bus trips, and live entertainment. She attended hymns and devotions every day Monday through Friday, and church service on Sundays. She absolutely LOVED the food, which was also important to her, she was a health nut.
Her end of life was accompanied by Smoky Mountain Hospice, who is absolutely wonderful. They came along side of the Autumn Care staff and lovingly helped “Auntie” live with the very best attentive care, love and dignity until her final breath.
My family will forever be thankful that we chose Autumn Care for the later days of our precious Auntie’s life here on earth.
The experience was nothing short of phenomenal, giving us a peace of mind knowing we gave our precious Auntie the very best life possible before dementia took her from us. Thank you to the kind and loving staff, from the bottom of our hearts!!! ❤️
