Merry Christmas !

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

It was an honor for Norwood Wyatt Chapel to be involved in the restoration of the Rev. Father Michael Dougherty Monument on the grounds of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tuscaloosa.
Established in the mid 1800s, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church holds a special place in Alabama’s history as one of the earliest Catholic parishes in the region. Founded by a small but devoted community of Irish and French immigrants, the church has stood through times of growth, hardship, war, and renewal. Father Michael Dougherty, appointed pastor in 1857, faithfully served the parish until his untimely death just a year later and was laid to rest on the church grounds, where his legacy remains an important part of St. John’s story.
Today, St. John the Baptist continues to be lovingly restored and preserved as an important historical and spiritual landmark for the Tuscaloosa community and the Diocese of Birmingham. We are grateful to play a small role in honoring the past while supporting the ongoing efforts to preserve this remarkable church for future generations.
It is a privilege to serve our community and help care for the places and people that shape its history.
