Major updates have been made to the playroom on the pediatric unit at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, thanks to a generous gift from Fayetteville native and Miami Dolphins tight end, Julian Hill! The new "teen corner" features a PS5 with over 25 games, Nex Playground, gaming seats, updated storage and colorful artwork.

According to Danielle Hansen, Child Life Specialist at Cape Fear Valley Health, "Loss of control is difficult for teens in the hospital. Having a space meant for them with activities they enjoy makes their stay more enjoyable during a stressful time. ”

Julian visited our pediatric unit over the summer and shared words of encouragement, signed autographs and surprised each patient with Miami Dolphins goodie bags.

Pictured below are photos of the playroom updates, as well as Julian's June 2025 visit.

Happy Halloween from our pediatric and NICU patients! πŸŽƒ How adorable are these little trick or treaters?! A very special thank you to our Spirit Halloween stores and our local franchise owners, Bill and Carolyn Dickerson, for continuing to support our tiniest Cape Fear Valley Health patients year after year. While staying in the hospital can be scary, we know it is important to still recognize and celebrate each holiday. Today, patients participated in "reverse trick or treating" which allowed their care team to visit each room to pass out candy and toys, rather than patients having to leave their rooms. This celebration is not only fun for our patients and families, but also is something that our team members enjoy!

🌟Employee Donor Spotlight: Reverend Roy Johnson, Manager of Chaplain Services for Harnett Healthcare🌟

How long have you been with the health system? 22 years…and many of those years, and currently, serving on the Harnett Health Foundation Board of Directors.

Why did you become an employee donor? In 2005, Betsy Johnson Hospital Foundation was founded and I was Staff Chaplain and one of the Charter Members of the Foundation. Through the Samaritan
Funds, donations were raised to help patients in need with transportation costs and other emergency needs requested by nursing staff. Thankfully, this Ministry has grown, and still active.

What inspires you to give? For the Cancer Center and Adolescence Center. I feel the Lord inspired me to give to these causes. The reason for these two, as Staff Chaplain, started at Wake Med in 2001 - until 2004, and started at Betsy Johnson on Feb. 4, 2004. I cherished the honor God has given me to serve as Hospital Chaplain (from 2001 to the present!). It was part of my job to be there in many instances to see and witness the care, compassion, professional skill and sacrifices our staff makes for the care of our patients. They have one goal, in my opinion, to give medical treatment to all and to save lives. For this reason, and Lord willing, I desire this cause to be part of my legacy.

Thank you, Reverend Roy, for being an employee donor and for your hard work and dedication to support our patients and programs! πŸ’™πŸ’š

Foundation History: Cape Fear Valley Health Pavilion - Lillington Ribbon Cutting πŸŽ—

One year today on Oct. 29, 2024, we celebrated the Ribbon Cutting at the Cape Fear Valley Health Pavilion - Lillington, home to the new Cancer Center in Harnett County. The three-story, 66,000-square-foot building hosts a variety of specialty clinics and is anchored by the Cancer Center. To bring this vision to life, Harnett Health Foundation launched the Bringing Hope Home to Harnett County fundraising campaign with a goal of supporting local cancer patients.

The Cancer Center provides a full range of cancer treatments including chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and features expanded chemotherapy infusion areas, modern technology, a dedicated team of experienced oncologists and a peaceful Healing Garden outside the infusion suites. From diagnosis to comprehensive treatment, these services are all offered under one roof.

Naming opportunities in the building are still available. To learn how you can support cancer care in Harnett County, contact Scott Childers at (910) 766-7119 or schilders@capefearvalley.com.
