A small act of kindness can make a big difference. ❤️ Let’s fill our hallways with encouragement for patients, families and the dedicated team members who serve our community every day.

This month, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation is inviting you to help spread encouragement through its Acts of Kindness campaign. Through the initiative, patients, families, employees and community members can send a heart in their honor to be displayed throughout the Cape Fear Valley Health. Each heart features the sender’s first name and last initial and serves as a simple but powerful reminder that someone cares.

“I was excited to take part in this effort because it shows how even the simplest acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference,” said Elizabeth Simmons, a retired nurse, patient and volunteer. “It is such an easy way to share joy with our patients and team members. Having spent so much time at Cape Fear Valley Health, I know the impact these reminders can have. It truly warms my heart to see our community come together to spread kindness.”

🌟Employee Donor Spotlight: Teresa Thompkins, RT(R)(M)(BHCN) 🌟

How long have you been with Cape Fear Valley Health? I have been with Cape Fear Valley Health 33 years and a donor for the past 22 years.

Why did you become an employee donor? I was born here at Cape Fear Valley and lived here my entire life. As a registered technologist, I have worked in radiology for 38 years with a specialty concentration in breast imaging for more than 35 years. Over these years, I have seen breast cancers among a vast array of women who never even had a sign or symptom. I have held their hand and often shed many tears with them. Knowing early detection is the BEST protection, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation opens a path to help me give back to my local and extended community, especially through the free screening mammogram program.

What inspires you to give? Knowing I can truly help in making a difference, even in the smallest way. It’s the right thing to do!

How do you see acts of kindness displayed throughout Cape Fear Valley Health and Hoke Hospital? Staff saying good morning with a sincere face-to-face smile. Lifting one another up with a gentle pat on the ole back and kind positive words of encouragement to help brighten the day. Staff sharing heart felt love to staff, co-workers, patients and visitors because they genuinely have a desire to.

Thank you, Teresa, for all you do for our patients and for being such a loyal supporter to our health system and Foundation! 💙💚

- Gas and transportation vouchers for patients to attend treatment
- Comfort items like blankets, scarves and hats
- Wig vouchers for those who experience hair loss during treatment
- Medication assistance
